Tackles Indicted

Matt Chatham is a bonehead. What ever he says the opposite will happen. Never fails. He tries to sound so smart on the radio and later that week the opposite stuff occurs. Therefore, I look for good things out of the line.

This board is possibly the only place in the entire world you will see people indicting the quarterback for the team's protection issues rather than the offensive line.

Football Outsiders ran this piece the other day that essentially called out Miami's awful play from both tackle spots as the biggest reason for the team's offensive struggles right now: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/film-room/2013/film-room-tannehill-haden

Then I pop on over to Finheaven and see a thread on the front page asking if having time to throw the football is overrated.

This board never ceases to amaze me. People here get SO HIGH on freekin' mediocre talent like Bess and Hartline... and when there's actually a player with talent on the team, they pick him to pieces: Bush, Tannehill, Wallace, Ginn [admittedly overpaid and overdrafted while on Fins, but still immensely more of a threat than other Miami WRs]. And then, when you dare to talk about real talent issues, and the complete failure to a. compile talented players at skill positions, and 2. draft for depth, you get "thumbs down" and poor reps out the wazoo.

Yep. The problem with this team is Tanny's inability to scan the field, go through progressions, sense exactly where the pressure is coming from [even if all directions at once], and get the ball out accurately in 2.1 seconds or less. Definitely his fault. lol. SMH unbelievable.

I get that fans have emotion. I'm emotional about the game -- play with passion, view with passion. Nothing wrong w. being emotional. But letting emotion cloud your eyes on the reality of the product on the field? There's no excuse for that, imo.

It's like a wife whose husband is a serial cheater, making excuses for him for years simply because of emotion. It's pitiful. And leaves a person empty in the end.

Which is where the Fins have been: Empty. Everyone high on mediocre talent at skill positions, zero talent at depth positions, and at the end of the year wondering how in the world we missed the playoffs. "But in my mind we were so good!" "WOW! Look at how great Bess is! And Hartline's like the second or third WR in the whole league! Must be that stupid Reggie Bush and Ryan Tannehill and Mike Wallace holding us back again!" lol

I almost went into that thread, and then I saw who the thread starter was and decided against it.

Maybe because performance is more important than talent? Bess and Hartline may not have "talent" in your estimation, but they have performed. And you prefer Ginn? Did you see him let a long pass go right through his hands last night? Did you see him fumble a punt without even being hit? This is what he has always done. If speed is talent, than he has it, but it does him and the team he plays for little good. I'll take no talent guys like Hartline and Bess all day long. My favorite Dolphin of the post-Marino era was Wes Welker, who keeps breaking NFL records, all with no talent.

My sentiments exactly. At present we may never see the full potential of Tannehill because of the pitiful OL pass blocking. Give him a real OL and then we'll talk about his talent. Right now he's getting the crap beat out of him.

I was with you all the way until you said "Ginn"!

Did you ever play football L? Just wondering.

Did you ever play football L? Just wondering.

Yep. And some coaching too. And some really strong opinions about football philosophy. I've taken less-talented squads and beat much stronger squads -- because I understand and see the game -- yes, maybe differently than a normal fan. Which causes me to rub people the wrong way, which I don't mean to do.
