Offense scored more than 21, Defense gave up more than 21
... so the defense should theoretically take more blame than the offense.
Defense:
Bell was the leading tackler with 5 tackles, which is fine. The second leading tackler had only 2 tackles. Are you kidding me? Show me a defense where the top 2 guys have 7 combined tackles, and I'll show you a victory. This is absurd.
We got killed by a tight-end again today. Dallas Clark, 7 catches for 183 yards. This seems to be a hole on the defense... not that every team has a Tony Gonzales or Dallas Clark.
Only 61 yards rushing for Indy... so run defense played good (5.5 yards per rush, though).
*****
Ginn had 11 catches for 108 yards. Normally a 100-yard game is a dominant performance. 2 drops in the endzone, though, are not very confidence inspiring.
Fasano with 1 catch for 1 yard, and 1 drop in the endzone on another nice Pennington Pass. That's 3 dropped TD's for 2 players.
*****
Lastly:
239 rushing yards vs. 61 - this should always be a victory.
Time of Posession: 45 min vs. 15 min - this should always be a victory.
Third Down Efficiency 15/21 - 71% - this should always be a victory.
This was really a freakish, freakish loss. Statistically, we should have won by 21. Really, lots of bad luck. This was a winning effort, with unpredictable results... I've never seen anything like it from a statistical standpoint.
*****
Note: There was a missed field goal. A Vinatieri dink that went in. An int on the last play.
