Anyone have a clue what the talent level was when Saban arrived at LSU? I juts read the power rankings and we are 30th and to be honest, who cares about that. Last year we were ranked much higher and look where we ended up. It's not like the guy giving us the rankings is best friends with god!!! But the ranking and the explanation or lack of, given by the guy left me wondering what did Saban inherit when he joined the Tigers?? I know they could not have been National Champs in Sabans first season. But three years in he's holding the crystal football and dancing in the lockeroom.

I keep reading here how Saban will do his first season and how he walked into the nearly worst situation in all the NFL, and I'm thinking how can that be when just the year before this past season we were a 10 win team. I think Saban did with the Dolphins the same as he did with last coaching gig and that was look at the team and situation from every possible angle and and discussed it with every person he has respect for before taking the job.

We have heard Saban say of all the jobs he's been offerd over the last few years this was by far the best situation and he was excited to come here. Our talent has never been the question and now we have a coach that will compliment the team and vise versa. Saban has a lot to work with here and the players are all positive about Saban and staff no reason to believe that we should finish below 500. this year and we will not be in last place in the division this year.

I can't remember the exact quote, but back BEFORE last season, before Wanny was given the 2 year extension by Wayne, there was a blurb or two somewhere about Saban had been keeping an eye on the Dolphin coaching job.

Anytime you are offered 4 million even though you are unproven as a HC, it will always be a perfect situation.

come on Justa... you are a knowledgeable guy. You know that Saban didn't come here just for the money.

4 million surely did help him decide to take it. I'm sure a lot of proven HC's don't get that much.

I'm not going to be naive about the money, but Saban was offered big money elsewhere. I think he looked at the talent, the ability to do and hire whatever he felt was best for the team without interference from the owner. Plus the drafting position and the fact that we have probowlers on the D side of the ball to build around by means of the draft. Saban is like a chess players always thinking five moves ahead.

It's funny Justasportsfan, you only think Saban came here for the money or at least thats all you mention. WH made that just one more reason to come to Miami. I think that was more inteded for Mrs. Saban then it was Mr.Saban. But for you to bring that and only that up as a reason for Saban leaveing a great situation at LSU shows your lack of vision or your ability to mask the truth....with yourself!! In other words your in denial. Fact is Saban has most of the reasons we won 10 games still here on the team and added some key components. We are better on D this year and for a couple of reasons, the additions to the team in talent and Nick Saban himself. Saban probably knew this from day one and everything is on par for his big picture.

You can say all you want about us not knowing what kind of coach Saban will be in the league, but I'll bet if you went to vegas and looked at the odds for Sabans success your money would be on success!! Unless your an idiot and like to throw your money away, and if thats the case I have mortgage payment due....a money order will do thanks.

Right now YOU can tell yourself anything you want about what Saban can do for this team, but the time will come when you can't lie to yourself and you will have to face the fact that the AFC just got better because Saban is here and he will have more succsess with the fins then anybody that coaches the Jills. And the best part is you fear this more then you'll admit. :cooldude:

Don't get mad because our owner will spend for a winning coach, and yours settles for O cord. and Tight ends coachs for your head coach..

A college winning coach.

As far as his NFL record, Saban is just a DC. A great one though

What had Mularkey even done to get the head coaching job.. He was and O-Cord. for 2 years and and tight ends coach for like 7 years before that. Saban was a D-Cord for a now superbowl winning headcoach.. He did well at Mich. State and then took the LSU Tigers to the national championship.. His coaching resume is much longer and better than Mularkey's and he got 1.5million. Wayne has the money and wanted this guy so he paid for him well. As far as Saban he had offers from other teams like Atlanta who I am sure would have been ready to pay him a hefty sum.. Arthur Blank like Wayne has deep pockets and was enamored with Saban.

Greg Williams is a great DC just like Saban. Spurrier was a great college coach just like Saban.

What has he done in the NFL as a HC? Nothing. I'm not trying to start a pissing match between Mularkey and Saban. Mularkey has only 1 year as a HC. Not enough time to judge him as a HC. Saban hasn't had a single game under his belt as a HC.

This current Dolphin teams Talent has been squandered by Wanny.. If Saban or someone like him would have taken over 2 or 3 years ago I would have been exited about our hopes for the playoffs. Now im optimistic we can be competative but the core of our defense is getting near the end. I would love for them to still be here when things turn around in a few years and we become contenders for a title.

Alex Smith has not thrown a pass yet in the NFL. When he signs his contract he will make more than 70% of the NFL.. Why does this happen, because you have to pay for talent. Ask Dallas fans if they thought they overpaid for JJ at the time.

Honestly, I'm impressed with your HC, your GM is another story but Mike seems like a guy thats smart and has a plan. Your guys have palyed better under him then your previous HC who I must say is doing a great job for the Skins.

As far as the 4 million I think Saban said look Wayne Butch Davis got 3million from the Browns 2 years ago.. I with the cost of living increase for a HC have to get atleast 4million.. Why start any lower than Butch Davis money for Saban.. Can you blame him.
