“I don’t think any of us know the answer to that question,” said Bill Belichick, whose Patriots were ambushed by Miami last September. “It’s a little bit of defending the unknown. Defenses are going to have to work against it and have some plan for how to deal with it. But there are so many different versions of how to run it. It will be interesting to see how all that develops.”

The latest wrinkle puts the ball back in the hands of a quarterback - but one who can run, such as Vick or Dolphins rookie Pat White(notes).

Brown scored five touchdowns taking snaps for Miami last year, but because he posed little threat as a passer, defenses clamped down late in the season. The Dolphins drafted White in the second round and have kept their plans for him under wraps, but Sparano said the wildcat chapter of his playbook is thick.

“We really didn’t scratch the surface last year,” Sparano said
.

We didn't even scratch the surface? damn, it gets me excited to think all the wrinkles they are going to add to it this year.....it's going to be exciting to watch our offense with all the trickery going on.

Noone really knows the answer to that. It all depends on how successful it is this season. Personally I dont think the wildcat will be longterm because I dont see teams taking the ball out of thier best qb's hands to put it in a lesser qb's hands. every offense has its strengths and weaknesses.

I agree. We couldn;t have asked for someone better than Ronnie to run he Wildcat. At times you need that power runner to take the snap.

I doubt it ever expands beyond what we did last year and will shrink in usage overe time. As soon as the "wildcat QB" replaces the starter and throws an interception people will start complaining and rightfully so in most cases.

When defenses start wolloping quarterbacks and a decent starter gets injured, that will be the end of the wildcat. Can you imagine Peyton Manning running the wildcat? Ha ha. Great quarterbacks don’t need this gimmick

I think the reason it works well for us is the fact that we have two big-threat runningbacks. Now, with Pat White, we should be even more versatile. It isn't for every team tho. It all depends on the personell.

Sparano has already said when a QB takes the snap it's not the wildcat.

I think it stick around because the big thing in college is the spread with athletic QB's and now that people have seen it work it will probably become atleast part of the playbook for most teams

ok ronnie at qb pat white out wide right and ted gin jr wide left

a. send either white or jr in motion snap ball and ronnie tuck and run

b. send white in motion to left (left hand QB) snap ball brown hands to white and both men run towards sideline (this is where ted gin must make decision) if corner blitz happens turn around for immediate pass if corners stays in coverage go deep draw safety and corner allow brown to slide in front of white for blocking.. white pass or run depending on ginn deep and fasano crossing

c. Send white in motion snap hand to white , white drives towards sideline pitches to ted ginn and brown and ginn burn it towards right sideline

d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z i can fill them all in so when sparano says they only scratched the surface i can believe it!!!!! :hi5:

Imagine if we go to the superbowl and win it... We still wouldnt get any respect because the media would say we had to use trickery to get there... Although the wildcat isnt trickery at all, its a valid offensive formation

As long as it fits within the rules of the game, it's perfectly legit to use and I think we should exploit it if we have the personnel and strengths to pull it off. Not doing so would be stupid.

I'm sure at one time Shotgun was crazy. A four receiver set? Insane. A West Coast offence, Run & Shoot or No Huddle? Who dare bring these things into the game! I say break all the "traditional" rules. It makes the game exciting, it allows it to evolve and it makes it more interesting.

If we can be the ones to make it our own and become the most effective at doing it, let's ride it as far as we can. Frig, the Jills ran the K-Gun to 4 straight Super Bowl appearances and I don't see anyone apologizing for what they did, except maybe Norwood . . . LOL. Poor Jills :D :D :D

Well maybe since we do so well with Carey lined up by Long we should move him to LG

It will last as long as it works....it will work as long as they become efficent running it.

The Dolphins of old ran appx 90% of all games...why, because the Dolphins offense became efficent running the football....every team the Dolphins faced knew that they were going to run...they knew that the Dolphins only had a few running plays...but time after time...the other teams defense couldn't stop them.

As long as you have the will, dedication and the right players and coaches...you can do anything.

People talk about "gimmck" football. I don't give a damn what they say... I call it excitement and creativity. Traditionalists will argue of smashmouth football. It's not like it's the only way we're scoring touchdowns. And it's not like the wildcat consistently produces 50 yd gains or TD plays.

We've been starving for creativity offensively here in Miami for years. Add to that the problem of not having a legit deep thread at WR, it makes sense to open the playbook and try and get years anyway you can.

I expect to see almost every team to run a version of it this year.
