Sparano has confidence in Tyrone Culver. With the training camp focus in the secondary primarily on the cornerback competition, little has been said about the picture at secondary. Yeremiah Bell and Gibril Wilson are all but locks to be the starters, so we asked Tony Sparano how much confidence he has in backup Tyrone Culver if either of those two went down.
“He’s a smart player who does a lot of jobs,” Sparano answered. “He’s in the nickel package, he’s in the dime, he’s a special teams player for us. He got better and better last year; he’s a good tackler, a smart player.
“I feel good about him if something happens.”
That last line is a mouthful. Both Bell and Wilson are willing to give up their bodies to make a hit, which is great on the surface but can result in injuries. Culver, who signed a three-year deal during the offseason worth $3.225 million, is a valuable insurance policy.
