I can honestly say that I am more interested and excited for a loss for my Fins this year than any other. I hate saying that as a fan but I'm having a long term perspective of this season. I was throwing things, kicking my dog and punching walls for NE & Houston, Now all I can do is chuckle and clap.

How many of you are having the same approach to this season? Am I the only fan doing this? Am I a complete douche for enjoying loses?

I never thought I would see the day.

I was always one of those guys that immediately hammered people who suggested losing to move up in the draft. The logic was just ridiculous. This is a completely different animal however.

1) With the wage scale in place, the cost of the top pick isnt nearly as expensive.
2) The rules slanted towards offense and the QB these days change things.
3) Most importantly, the player in question is the highest rated QB coming out since Manning and Elway. He is as cant miss as there has ever been. His value alone, even if you trade the pick(which we wouldnt do) is through the roof. If a team foolish enough not to select Luck themselves lands the first pick, you will see the most epic trade ever. That pick will cost a price that most people cant seem to fathom. Ive seen things thrown out that arent even close to what a team will ask for in return for that pick.

This is a once in a generation thing. The value of losing out and getting the first pick this season is likely greater than the value of hoisting the Lombardi trophy at the end of this season. For this reason, I am actively rooting for my team to lose each and every week. Never thought I would see the day. Never.

Now I would never root for losses to slide up a few spots from say 15th pick to 9th pick or something. The value just is never there. Its all about taking the correct player at that point. But, the first pick this year is something else. Its very much worth it to lose every game.

Usually I argue winning is good because its something a team must learn to do, especially if you have a bunch of young players. Winning in the NFL is hard and its an art form that must be practiced. But, the value of that experience does not supercede getting Andrew Luck.

I am feeling the same way. This team isn't going anywhere this year anyways, so I am rooting for the #1 pick. I just hope they keep losing and get Luck. I am basically willing to have the Dolphins tank this season in order to have hope for the future. Just look at the Panthers a year ago compared to this year. Getting the #1 pick and drafting Newton has completely changed that team and given them hope for the future. Thats what I am hoping for with the Dolphins next year. They need Luck, a new front office, and head coach.

i never thought i would actually be so un bothered by an 0-4 start by the fins, but i can honestly say, this is the first time in my life as a dolphin fan that i have showed no stress after a loss.

heres the way i look at it.

we have been stuck in mediocrity to poor football for over the past decade.

going 1-15, 2-14, or even 3-13 will lead us to many 10 plus win seasons, playoff appearances, and superbowl appearances/wins in the next 10-15 years.

going 6-10, 7-9, 8-8, will just continue us on a path towards more of the same garbage, no playoff appearances, and stuck in this poor play for years to come.

so therefore, as painful as it is, and although i wont root against the fins ( i dont need to, they lose anyway whether i root or not) i will not be the least bit upset when we lose. we are clearly not going anywhere this season

agreed.

even in the 07 season when we were completely irrelevant, i was arguing with people who said that we should lose out to get a better draft pick. however i couldnt do that because their was not one player in that draft, who was actually going to be this big of a significant game changer.

andrew luck , like you said, is a once in a generation qb, one we will prob not see come out for years and years to come. one scouting report i read about him, was comparing his talents and franchise changing ability to the likes of what lebrons james did to the cavs( although basketball is a different sport). if that is the case, a guy like that can be a top 10 qb right away in the league, and top 5 very soon after. this is a guy we will be talking about as a top qb in the league with aaron rodgers for years to come.

he is a must get, and we must do all we can do to get him. the colts going with painter though are going to give us a run for our money.

I don't want the players to intentionally lose games, but I'm fine with them losing and playing uninspired football - who could blame them?! I think there's a big difference between intentionally losing and just losing because you're not buying in to a lame duck coach. I expect the players to try, but to basically not really believe they can win when things start going bad in a game. I think that's attitude and culture that can be changed with a new regime and a shiney new qb.

That said, I would much rather be 2-14 than 7-9, and get the benefit of a high draft pick. Luck would be great, but he's not the only qb in the draft. Hopefully, our new gm and hc will have the pick they need to get their guy, then the team will play much differently, with hope and passion, not apathy and despair.

I'm sick of drafting in the middle rounds. I'm sick of just being good enough and just being a competitive team. I'm sick of being average. If we're going to suck, then d@mn it!!! Really suck so we can get something in return for it. Tank the season and solve the major problem that has haunted us for over a decade.

I love when people say the Luck is "can't miss"

I wonder how many QBs have been drafted with that tag before.

plenty lol People forget that Dan marino was not the next big thing when we drafted him. So I guess people now feel like yes it was a mistake to take Long over Ryan because Qb is the most important position on field. i personally would love luck but im not so convinved that he is our only solution. coaching is the biggest problem.

I still root for them to win throughout a game, but I actually like the outcome if its a loss because it brings us one step closer to Luck. Its been a win/win for me so far. I am in no hurry to see Sparano gone as long as he keeps losing like this. He will be gone at the end of the season anyway.

Some fans are still scared to pick a first round QB?

You like mediocrity?

We have to take a ****ing chance.

Btw, I am fully on board with more losses.

We sacrifice this season for long term success.

Think long term guys, Short term (this year) is already gone.

I am with you man. Like other people mentioned I also used to hammer anyone who suggested that we should hope for losses as i could not imagine as a true fan ever wanting your team to lose. Now...i can't say i'm rooting for a loss but i feel no emotion anymore when we do. The years of mediocrity and bad coaches and below average QB's has finally caught up to me. I used to get so fired up for gameday and so devastated after losses and now...nothing. My wife always used to ask what time the Dolphins were playing that week so she could leave the house and go do something else knowing i would be jumping around the living room...screaming at the tv and generally making a complete *** of myself. I used to lose sleep after night games that we lost...going through what could have been. Now...nothing. I still can't be happy for losses but if it means we will finally get our franchise QB and some hope again then bring on the L's. The worst thing about all this has been giving up hope and just not caring anymore. It sucks.
