how is holding a clipboard good for his development? if the team is decent under Moore or Garrad this year how do you get him ready? he will never get the speed of the game nor will he be able to get any timing down with his receivers, I believe Garrard gets cut so he can play this season.
Well, hopefully just holding a clipboard is not all he will be doing. We now have a coaching staff with a record of developing QBs. Arron Rogers sat and "held a clip board" and so did Matt Flynn and it worked out very well for them.
Considering that our WRs are young and they are going to need to learn to THEIR timing down running WC routes I do not see a big plus of having a rookie QB trying to throw to WRs trying to learn what hey have to do.
Also a very important thing to me is to get our new and hopefully improved OL up to speed before defense start throwing blitzes at Tannehill that they and he are not ready for. While I think that Martin will do well playing RT he will still need some time to get it down. And I'm still not sure who our RG is going to be.
The one thing that we should all be watching is the number of snaps that Tannehill will get in practice. We can be sure that he will be pretty sure that he will be running the scout offense which will be giving him good training. For instance, Fuller and a number of other young WRs will be with him learning together. Normally, the starting QB seems to get about 98.2% of the snaps with the first team which I think is a mistake but IMO would be a even bigger mistake with Tannehill.
Not right away but as the season goes on I'd like to see him getting some reps in practice with the first team offense. After all, he is our QB of the future and both Moore and Garrard are only signed for one more year.
As our first round pick we as fans want to see him play. I mean "everyone else first round pick will be playing".
If Tannehill is sacked 55 times this season and hit another 105 times I'm not sure how much he is going to learn. And if he throws for 15 TDs but also is picked off 25 times I'm not sure how that is going to help. If he is injured in game 6 and misses the rest of the season that would not help at all.
Depending on the coaches and their plan for a player, that player can learn a lot sitting and watching others make mistakes instead of making them himself. I'm sure that Mike Sherman will have Tannehill (by the way, I refuse to call him "T-Hill) will have him front and center in every meeting. He will be learning and not just sitting like a lot of 2nd or 3rd string QBs.
And I think David Garrard if his back is healed will make a very good back up QB. He is a veteran who can step in on a moments notice, carry the team and win ball games.
I'm personally tired of losing. If we can go 10-6 with Matt Moore starting then thanks to Buddha. Winning does so much good for the team and for the fans which is one reason I hated the "Suck for Luck" idea. Losing destroys players and teams. It makes you into a loser. No player on this team wants to lose 3-5 more games this season just so Tannehill can "take his lumps" and "get up to speed". They want to know that the coaches have put the TEAM in the best position to win as many games as possible. This season is not just about Ryan Tannehill, it is about the rest of the TEAM.
Even a 8-8 season with Matt Moore can prepare us for a 10-6 season next year with Tannehill as the starting QB.
But for the 37th time. If Tannehill clearly beats out Moore and Garrard and our OL can keep him upright then that is the way to go. But in no way shape or form should he simply be given the starting QB job because of where he was drafted or because fans want to see him play.
