I've become infected with Tannehill Flip-Flop disease. I contracted it by checking the latest QB YPA rankings. And ESPN's rankings show Tannehill ranked 29th out of 32. On the plus side, his YPA has increased from slightly north of 5 to 6.6; on the minus side two of the QB's ranked worse than Tannehill, Geno Smith and EJ Manuel, have been benched with Derek Carr holding up the rear. While Tannehill's 2:1 TD to Int ratio is encouraging, I think the YPA statistic is more indicative of Tannehill's performance.

Tannehill's statistics may have improved over the last few weeks, but perhaps this is due to Lazor scaling back the playbook and catering to Tannehill's strengths i e. short and intermediate routes. Unfortunately you can't win in this league without threatening the entire field and connecting on deep passes that lead to easy scores.

So if Tannehill cannot improve his YPA to a middle of the pack ranking, is he really franchise QB material?

bail while you still can

you think that ypa is bad now wait til we have to work everything off 3 step drops cause the protection doesnt allow much more...numbers in a vacuum...stick with them...they are end all be all

you realize that other than the first 3 weeks slow start from the qb the yards per attempt numbers have been great unless the pressure on the qb has been immense and pretty much immediate...anyways i'm done trying...you guys bail if you want...i'm sure the ypa thursday is gonna be ugly and probably next sunday as well

PFF's signature stats, an updated QBR with drops, throwaways, etc added, has Tannehill at #21. Their individual grades have him at #10, and they have him with 3 good games, 3 bad games, and 3 average games.

Throw them all together and he comes out at #15, which I believe to be fair so far this year.

I just checked my temperature and my fever is fortunately low-grade and delirium has not set in. Unlike our compatriot who recently changed his username, in no way am I advocating for Matt Moore to start!!!

#15 is fair...anywhere in the top 20 when you take the first 3 week start albeit in a new offense is fair...but geno smith and ej manuel category??? clean your freaking loop

i mean who takes andy dalton or jay cutler even over tannehill...no damn way...nick foles where sanchez even is proving it is all about the system there...i can go on

Take as many as you need. Watch the player....you'll be fine.

Oh there is going to be alot of expectations for our QB to play at a "franchise level" even though the O-line will more than likely, unfortunately, not give him much time. What is the kryptonite of many actual declared "franchise QB" in the league?. Pressure, Pressure brings even the best to play below normal expectations.

Well, its only Tuesday but we do have a game on Thursday night and if we lose, well, who knows what we're gonna get here for 10 days in a row with no game.

I totally agree with you that Tannehill > Cutler, Dalton and Foles. It is also interesting that Foles' YPA ranking was low and reports emerged that the Eagles staff felt that Foles had maxed out his potential. I also acknowledged Tannehill's improvement since the first 3 games. I was just questioning whether this improvement had more to do with Lazor catering to Tannehill's strengths by increasing the number of read-option runs and not emphasizing the deep passing game.

So yes catering to his strengths has led to improved statistics. That's fine in the short-term, but can you become a contender by not insisting that your QB develop to a level in which he can threaten the entire field?

It won't be pretty. Lots of draft talk and everybody within the organization sucks.

Yeah, when you consider new o, protection, drops, good game, bad games, etc along with what most of us have seen over 9 games, I think #15 is where he should be.

Unless he totally tanks or has major injury, Ryan Tannehill is the QB in 2015.

How do you upgrade over him?

Peyton Manning set many NFL records last year without his all-pro left tackle Clady. Manning didn't meet his kryptonite until the Super Bowl.

Obviously Tannehill is not Manning and the Broncos have more potent weapons. The point is that Tannehill should still be expected to play well even without Albert. And that requires the coaching staff to make the necessary adjustments as well.

We should have thought of that last draft. We could have drafted any QB we wanted except Bortles, and I think there could be 2 or 3 good ones out of that class.
