But while he would love nothing better than to make the Super Bowl an annual trip, he wants to be doing it throwing passes rather than pitching products.

“I want to be in this game,” Tannehill told the Finsiders. “I don’t want to be making the rounds here at radio row. I want to be playing in the game and getting ready to win. Until I’m there — and even when you get there, you want to keep coming back — it’s something I’m looking forward to, the process of getting here.”

Tannehill made great strides in 2014, his third season in the NFL and with the Dolphins, and it’s that improvement that’s perhaps the biggest reason for optimism as the organization looks ahead to the 2015 season.

General Manager Dennis Hickey said as much when he addressed the media at the Senior Bowl a couple of weeks ago, and Dan Marino echoed those sentiments to the Finsiders last week.

“It feels great to have the support of the upper-level guys,” Tannehill said. “I think I’m on the right path. I think I made some strides this year, but I’m nowhere near where I want to be.”

Tannehill became in 2014 the first Dolphins quarterback other than Marino to pass for more than 4,000 yards in a season and he also set a franchise record with 392 completions.

Beyond the numbers, Tannehill showed better command of the offense as the weeks went by and also made major contributions with his running ability.

“I definitely feel like I get better as the year went on,” said Tannehill, who had a run of 30 yards or longer in three consecutive games. “I got comfortable. It took me a few games to settle in and get comfortable, get comfortable with the new concepts we were doing and everything like that. Once I did that, I felt like I really settled in, started making some more plays and the guys around me really stepped up their game as well.

“The more time you spend in a system, the more comfortable you get. Spending all last year being able to run the system, having the familiarity come back, it’s a luxury. I’m looking forward to it. I’m looking forward to working with (offensive coordinator Bill Lazor) over the offseason, looking at areas where we can improve, game situations, personally fundamentals, all those areas. We have this long offseason to prepare for next year.”
Regarding the presence of Marino in his role as special advisor: “It’s cool having Dan around, a guy with his history. His career that he had, his success over such a long period of time, it’s always great to be able to pick a legend like that, his brain.”

As he analyzed the Dolphins a few days before the New England Patriots faced the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, Tannehill said his team wasn’t far away from being able to think about playing in the big game.

“Right on the cusp,” is the way he put it.

“We have to find a way to win those two or three games that we let slip away,” Tannehill said. “There’s four or five games a year that come down to a few points and maybe it’s a few points over the course of the game or maybe it’s a few points at the end of the game. I think of Green Bay, I think of Detroit, where the offense had the ball. We had the opportunity to seal the game and we didn’t get it done. We couldn’t get that first down and the defense couldn’t get a stop. As a team, we have to find a way to make those plays. And if we do that, then we’re going to get over that hump, be in the playoffs and be right on track where we want to be.”

It was good to see him having fun and showing his personality in his interviews yet still stating he isn't happy about where he or this team sit.

"We couldn’t get that first down and the defense couldn’t get a stop. As a team, we have to find a way to make those plays."

It good to see that he can acknowledge what a lot of posters on this forum can't. The team lost those GB and Detroit games not just the defense.

Understood. I think the majority of that argument stems from an overcompensatory argument that exists due to the increased pressure and responsibility placed on QBs this era. This is a team sport, but many want to blame the QB, weather he was on the field or not. The truth is that our defense had an opportunity to do their part and failed miserably, over and over. Could the offense and Tannehill done more? Absolutely. However, we had a lead in many of those games and a conservative approach during those moments did no favors.

The Offense could have done more, but the defense didn't do enough.

Damn it feels good to finally have a very good franchise QB. :linedance:

The defense was playing well during that stretch 71. I believe they were top 5 at one point. For whatever reason after the Denver lose they were never the same. They exposed our weakened run defense and teams took advantage after that.

True the offense did not score enough points (even though they got 36 at Mile High) to keep pace.

Bottom line like was said it's a team sport.

I agree with Shula that we have our QB

P>S> polish up your clubs bro. Two more months and you'll be dropping birdies left and right :)

And meanwhile, most of the defensive players are spewing excuses and blaming coaches... One thing I like about the QB is that he never throws anyone under the bus and holds himself accountable, thats how you get better at anything in life...

Exactly, the "offense" failed to get that first down, not "Ryan Tannehill". Too many on this site attempt to put all the blame on the QB. I have no problem with saying that the offense hasn't been consistent enough.

Agreed, although I think It's tough to say for some of them. Coyle seemed to be moving people around into out-of-the-norm positions, and that might have to led to some confusion and frustration, exposing weaknesses maybe some players didn't even know they had. Ideally yeah you'd like to have a squad of guys say "Whatever Coach, put me anywhere and I'm gonna light it up", but game-time emotion escalates and guys can get pissed when they see they were at a disadvantage on a play.

I hope Coyle takes the players' thoughts into account this season a little more, it might shed some light on what he could do better with his schemes.

attempting to get in before its "fluffers" vs "haters" like every other thread.

In regards to the interview- RT handles himself very well, he says the right things, and seems to really want to be great. I like the guy a lot from a personality, "face of the franchise" perspective

agreed with this... i think Coyle did what he had to do in the situation he had with the players. He put them where they needed to go... and its just tough to put a consistent winning defense out there when players may be uncomfortable (though working hard... like Misi who I think did what he could).

this coming season i think Coyle hopefully will have some holes filled in, and some depth to the defense to work with and get players back to their strong suits.

He's a great person to have as the face of the franchise.

Record breaking season? Oh please.....

Great contribution to this thread. Keep up the good work.

I think offensively we are close. We need to focus on:

1. Fixing the OL once and for all
2. Adding a big-bodied receiver that can help Ryan, especially in the RZ

If you really believe that RT is your guy, you can't submit him to another season of poor pass protection. That has to be priority #1. But also, we really struggled in the red zone last year, so we have to get a bigger target that Ryan can rely on, and hopefully if we improve our RZ efficiency, our offense will be able to put up enough points that will counterbalance our defensive issues.

I have to say the the way radio row works totally irritated me. The first week prior to the Superbowl all the radio guys whined about was "let's get on with Super bowl talk (and away from deflate-gate)" The second week all we heard from the radio guys were sales pitches from anyone with name recognition walking by.
