Tannehill Was Hot And Cold Today, Here Is A Misread On The First 3rd And 8. (sound On)

Ya that was a frustrating play as it is so rare for us to have a wide open receiver. Tannehill panicked and needs to make that play. For whatever reason he plays scared against the Jets or teams with a good dline.

My guess is he shell-shocked from years of taking beatings and crappy oh line play

good point regarding the play... Bigger point in your thread title -- Ryan is inconsistent and at least for me I never get the feeling he's really comfortable (in command) when asked to function in critical situations. Fairly sure opposing DCs see the same and know to rattle his cage.

He's a really good athlete playing QB -- but (IMO) he's never going to be a definitive difference maker in the traditional model of an NFL QB.

Speaking of that -- WHO is this kid playing QB for KC???

Like where did he come from?

I know... But wow!

It's only his 7th year after spending 5 years in college, give him time.

JK, nice breakdown.

People were saying this about Deshaun Watson. They’re not so high on him now. I’m not saying Mahomes (or even Watson) isn’t the real deal, just suggesting a larger sample size before we fit them for their hof jackets.

Overall I think Tannehill is fine, but here is something that gets me quite frustrated (sound on):

Follow me on Twitter for more Dolphins insight and film breakdown @AnthonySabaNFL

I need to see the all 22 but it looked like there was a safety over the top of grant about where the sticks where before the camera moved.

Oh course consistency is the measure -- but I'd much rather have a kid come on the scene like him lighting it up than...

He was hot and cold. But here is the thing that I like about Tannehill/Gase. It used to be when Ryan starting out scattershot it was a full game thing where we ran the risk of being shutout. Instead we always find a way to win. Tannehill hasn't morphed in the type of QB who is likely to out 35 on every team. What he has turned into is a guy who doesn't get shut down for 4 quarters and finds a way to put you in position to win the game.

I think we forget just how hard production has usually been against the Bills and Jets whose defensive front tends to dominate and whose secondaries are frequently super stingy.

People may laugh but I think it has merit. This is the best protection he's had by far in the league and his natural instinct is to get rid of the ball immediately. Especially, against the Jets!

If the protection holds up throughout the season then i think we'll see more big plays.

Finally, while I get the film breakdown, this isn't an example of a play I would use to throw an egg in Tannehill's face.

Considering when Grant got "open" and what was happening there i have no problem with the checkdown play.

and the LBer who was sitting in a hook zone on the in until tannehill made the check down.

I said yesterday that RT looks a little bit rusty still. He's a half a beat off on certain plays. He has to stop dropping the ball on the field, that will cost us games if it persists. The ball wasn't wet yesterday so Ryan has to concentrate on ball security. It's easy to knock him out of his rhythm with pressure. Now when the game was on the line yesterday RT was a warrior and used his wits, his legs and his heart to get us the win. But, he still freezes in the face of a pass rush. He's GOT to start moving his feet as pressure approaches. Or, just throw the ball away and live to fight another day. Bortles was a moving around the pocket beautifully against the Pats. That is an element missing from RT's game. Look at Baker Mayfield, I see a guy fly through his progressions. He simply looks to me like he plays at a different speed than Tannehill. Maybe it's rust, I've seen RT play at a much higher level. Gase has kind of made RT into a game manager in a way. It's ok with me because we're 2-0!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to find my post from April 2017 where I said Mahomes was the steal of the draft.

He is a complete freak of an athlete (coulda been major league pitcher) and has his head screwed on right. was a blast to watch in college.

what we havent seen too much is his manziel-like improv skills. he can do it all.

It looks like there is a linebacker underneath and a safety over the top, if you tried throwing that to grant it would’ve been picked off. And I didn’t see any panic there at all.

What I really want to see him do is break the pocket when the rush comes in and keep his eyes downfield and look for the big play. If there's one part of his game that is lacking it's making something out of nothing ala Russell Wilson. I've seen it at times and feel he can do it I just really want him to use his athleticism and find something big downfield. Also, I wish he had a little Brady in him to take advantage when the D is either not getting on or off the field, set up wrong encroachment , etc.something like that and go for the throat
