I don't think you can compare QB ratings from that era to now. Marino would have thrown for 6,000 yards and 60 TD's every year with these rules.

But Tannehill is 27 in passer rating and 29 in QBR. Which confirms everything my eyes have told me. He sucks.

One stat I like is passing DVOA, it allows you to compare apples to apples and Elway was top 10 in that stat quite often, including number 1 overall the year he retired. Its a lot like passer rating, its a team game blah blah blah, but it correlates quite nicely with the great QBs, and if you can't get into the teens at least its not a good sign.
