We to hurry up and give him a new deal before Luck and Wilson get there so he can't use that as leverage. I would give him the same contact as Andy Dalton IMO . Plus Can Newton should be coming up on a new contract as well , Front Office should get ahead , instead of paying him $15 million for next season .

From what I have heard from Tannebaum in interviews its sounds like he thinks we have the QB position taken care of. But they still have a year before they really have to decide. I wouldn't expect anything before this time next year.

no need. Tannehill cannot ask for Wilson/Luck money. Hes no where close to them. i bet he'll get a contract next year after his rookie deal expires.

Where do we think he'll wind up assuming he has a year similar or a bit better than this past year? Will playoffs factor into how much he gets?

All I can say is that with this supposed "megadeal" in the works for Luck and Wilson almost certainly getting paid, both of these things will affect the money Tannehill gets. May not be substantial, but it will affect it I think.

not sure I agree. If he has a very good year next year, I think there might be some teams that think they are only a QB away that will pay huge money for him. The question is not what he has done for Miami and what Miami is willing to pay, but what do they have to pay to keep him. Dangerous game to wait and see.

Amazing how a person that is supposed to have no say on personnel has so much to say lol

I just don't see the rush tbh. You essentially have 2 years . . . with the 2nd one netting Ryan 15 million. That is still cheap 5 year deal for a 5 year starting QB. Worse comes to worse you have a franchise tag year as well.

If Ryan balls out next year, it will certainly be to his benefit and our benefit as well regardless, so if you have to throw him money, you throw him the money . . . you've got a star QB, and that is worth it's weight in gold.

I'd try to negotiate something this year, but there is absolutely no leverage either way IMO. Ryan put up solid statistics but the Dolphins have a 22-25 record with him at QB. Put a fair offer out there and see where you stand and go from there.

I agree with this…but Im definitely on the bandwagon to sign him to an extension. The point of giving him an extension now is all about money. Dalton, for example, got like 17 million guaranteed over 6 years. Tannehill would get a similar deal….its basically a 2 year 17 million contract…with an additional 4 years of escalating prices that would still be below market. The contract would be easy to get out of after the first 2 years.

We could wait…and it wouldn't be the end of the world. But I do think there is actually much more risk in waiting it out.

I wouldn't say Tannehill is a star qb. What evidence is there of that? Wilson and Luck have been to the playoffs. Wilson of course, 2 SB's. I'm more for Ryan than against him, but if he were replaced by another average qb, would we have lost more games?

What I want to know is, if we cant put together a winning team with our qb on a rookie wage then how are we gonna do it when he is soaking up 20% of the salary cap??

I would pay him the 1 yr 15 million and draft a QB this season to develop
Gives the new QB 2 years in our system before a decision has to be made on Tanny long term

We should be drafting a QB at least every other year in the mid-late rounds IMO. We can't be paying a backup QB like Moore 5 mil a year…its insane.
