It got overshadowed a bit because of the final result, but Ryan Tannehill turned in yet another stellar performance against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Tannehill produced four touchdowns when he matched his career high with three TD passes and added his first rushing score of the season. Even despite a late interception, which came after intended receiverJarvis Landry deflected the ball high into the air and into the waiting arms of safety T.J. Ward, Tannehill finished with a passer rating of 104.9.
It marked the second consecutive game with a 100-plus passer rating for Tannehill, the first time a Dolphins quarterback has accomplished that feat since Chad Pennington closed out the 2008 regular season with four consecutive games with triple digits.
After beginning the season with three games with a passer rating under 80, Tannehill has moved his figure on the season to 93.4, good for 11th in the NFL.
But it doesn’t take numbers to see that Tannehill has come a long way since the start of the regular season. It’s plain to see for anyone watching Dolphins games.
“I think Ryan is getting better,” offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said Monday. “I think he’s playing with control. I have a lot of confidence he’s only going to get better. He’s a competitor. He likes to run the ball. I think he’s feeling better and better about what we are doing in the pass game.”
What the Dolphins are doing in the pass game is emphasizing the short and intermediate passes, and Tannehill has thrived in that setup.
As proof, Tannehill has done something no other Dolphins quarterback has ever done — not Dan Marino, not Bob Griese, not Chad Pennington. Tannehill has completed at least 70 percent of his passes each of the last four games.
The number i like is 20 TD's vs 8 INT's . Good stuff from our QB
