Tannenbaum: left the Jets in shambles and cap purgatory through his capricious trades for draft picks, arbitrary extensions, etc. He was perfectly willing to take a demotion to capologist if incoming GM candidates hadn't expressed problems with him remaining in the building. In the collective wisdom of the league, he was compelled to become a sports agent to stay close to the NFL cuz no one wanted any part of him. So essentially Ross rewarded an almost-capologist with a string of failures and few if any other league options, by incredibly giving him a defacto promotion to football czar.

Grier: his father was a well-respected front office personnel man, so he's got the legacy thing going. But beyond that, his expertise was scouting, and as the director from 2007-2015, sure he was bound to have a few hits as any College Scouting Director will, but really, what's his batting average? Despite his front office -related 22 years before Tannenbaum conveniently circumvented the Rooney Rule in 2016 to make him GM, how often has Grier's name come up as a serious candidate for a GM position, outside of being used as a Rooney Rule prop? Hell, the team that knew him best, The Dolphins hired Ireland and then Hickey instead of giving him a shot, didn't they?

So really, are either qualified to do their jobs? Or as a litmus test, if either became available on the open market, do you really think another team would be clamoring to avail itself of their knowledge and expertise? I think not.

Howie Roseman saw Tannenbaum coming twice now. As others here have pointed out, Trader Mike will squander a 5th on a journeyman who has yet to see the light of day yet gives away a pro bowl RB for nearly a 5th! Could he have resigned Miller and Vernon had he been more and earlier proactive? Hard to say but it looks like it was a half-assed effort to lock them up. And what about Matthews? Wouldn't it have been easier to reach into the till to retain him then give up the store to trade up for Caroo who's been virtually worthless?

Yeah I know, this is a rant, somewhat self-indulgent. I understand if Ajayi had to go, but it seems like Tannenbaum has become Howie Roseman's country bumpkin of a cousin to take advantage of. Do you think there are many GMs in the league who don't believe they could out-hustle Trader Mike? How much respect does his trading acumen really garner?

IMO this is the crap that happens when you put the clowns in charge of the circus!

Well said, as always! This is a dark day and I'm not laughing about it. I hated Philbin totally but the thing about him I hated the most was his pathetic habit of cutting star players just because they intimidated him or didn't respect him like he felt they should. This is the first time Gase has reminded me of Philbin and as a fan I hate this move! In today's NFL, the Head Coach has to have the ability to work with a myriad of different personalities. Most of the talented kids are already millionaires and have dozens of people hanging around them telling them they are great. If you have a star on your team, and your team is this Miami Dolphin roster, you do whatever it takes to get this guy lined up and doing what he has to do to help your team on Sundays. How many players do the Dolphin's have that could crack the lineup for say the Eagles or Steelers on the Offensive side of the ball. Landry and Ajayi maybe and now only Landry remains, and they've been talking about moving him too. I'm going to wait until 4pm before I officially condemn this move but if no other shoe drops then I must conclude that something is very wrong with either the teaching of the system or the system itself. If it's so complex that players have a problem learning it who's problem is that. Are we going to have to draft all Ivy League player's to comprehend the many swirling intricacies of the Adam Gase system, we'll have a team of all guys from Harvard and Yale. They'll be in exactly the right position as they get planted on the field!!
