"He's been tremendous," Dolphins football czar Mike Tannenbaum said of the team's new coach, per the Finsiders. "A lot of energy, a lot of ideas, very collaborative. There's been great debate with (general manager Chris Grier), myself and him just trying to put the schedule together. And we really concentrated on the staff. Now, we're obviously quickly turning toward the roster."
The team's website noted that Dolphins officials were impressed with how Gase assembled a coaching staff flush with new and returning assistants, young coaches and a handful of experienced veterans.
"I think it's a real credit to Adam that when he met with (owner) Steve Ross, (president/CEO) Tom Garfinkel, (vice chairman) Matt Higgins, myself, he said, 'Hey, those are the coaches that I want to bring in and he delivered.' I feel really good about the staff," Tannenbaum said. "(Defensive coordinator) Vance Joseph had a number of opportunities. He chose us. (OC) Clyde Christensen, he's been coaching quarterbacks since, I think, the 1920s? He has a ton of experience. I think we have a really great blend of youth and experience on our staff."
Said Tannenbaum: "We were just excited about Adam, not only just coaching the quarterbacks but the entire team. With that said, his development with quarterbacks has been absolutely phenomenal."
Gase will be judged almost right away on how Tannehill blooms under his watch. The youngest coach in the NFL has accepted a stiff challenge, with the Dolphins looking nothing like an AFC heavy last season. With his coaching staff intact, it will be fascinating to watch how Gase shapes his first NFL roster.
