Tashard Choice on the bubble in Dallas...?

1. Speaking of running backs ... Phillip Tanner! This guy has been one of my favorite breakout preseason studs, and it was nice to hear Jerry Jones say on the broadcast that Tanner had made the team. I don't know what it means for Tashard Choice, and it sounds as though the Cowboys have yet to sort all of that out, but Tanner has played well enough to earn his spot. I just really like the way he runs -- strong, determined, feet constantly moving. He already has down some technique aspects of the running back position that coaches have to work to teach more talented guys. Interesting deep bench option for them, and he's good enough to make Choice wonder where he stands in terms of playing time, if not roster spot.

With the emergence of Phillip Tanner, scuttlebutt in Dallas seems to be that Tashard Choice may be a surprise cut. This is another Cowboy that Ireland should be all over. No one down here seems to know why he isn't liked by the new coaches, but it isn't from lack of talent. He has produced anytime he has been on the field. With DeMarco Murray assured a spot due to his draft status, and Jerry Jones coming out and saying Phillip Tanner has made the team, now would be the time to call them up and offer a low round pick for him. Hell, maybe they'll take a Merling-for-Choice swap since they need some depth on the D-line...

i would trade merling for choice...but i personally don't think the cowboys will cut choice...

They fail to mention that Jerry Jones also said he would carry 4 RBs on the roster. Choice is safe.

Update: Choice did not travel with the Cowboys to Miami for Thursday’s final preseason game, the Dallas Morning News reports.


Recommendation: If Phillip Tanner(notes) has another impressive performance for Dallas on Thursday, it could mean the end of Choice’s Cowboy career, as the club likely won’t keep more than three running backs on their 53-man roster.

Choice did not even travel with the team to Miami. If I was Ireland, I'd already be on the phone with Jones. He still may not be cut, but it does not look like his role with the team will be significant. Definitely someone who would be movable...

If you restrict yourself from picking up players from certain teams, you are only hurting yourself. Choice is a young back with few carries. When he has played, he has played very well. It's a mystery why Garrett isn't a fan of the kid...

Choice > LJ and its not even close!!! Id take Choice for Merling trade as well in a heartbeat! If we can land Choice as a #2A and #2B with DT I would 100% down for that. Choice is a very good back.
