Stats taken from various sites (all rankings). A lot of improvements post Ireland and Sherman, especially on offense. If the defense can get back to where it was in 2013 and the offense can take another step up maybe we can be a good team next season. The surprising rankings to me are special teams, it doesn't seem like we were that bad especially considering Landry seemed to be a top returner, in yards anyway.

I knew Ross was going to bring Philbin back, I felt like his tenure was given a bit of a reset after Ross finally realized Ireland was the buffoon that he is. These results can help to validate that decision. Or not. Either way we're about to find out.

There is still a lot of room for improvement in all areas, especially special teams.

It was a huge decline in Defense points allowed, ST average start position for the opponent even tough we improved on Yards allowed rushing and passing and our average starting field position. Last year's bend don't break worked better and this year we were last in defensive 3rd down stops.

I am happy with the progress seen on offense this year. If we see the same type of improvement next year, this team should make the playoffs. You can't go from a terrible team to a playoff team in one year; we did it in 2008 and look what happened after that.

We started the year with a pretty good defense and a stagnant offense, we ended the year with a competent offense and a floundering defense.
Injuries? Depth? Maybe, but I try to find some hope in that we really did have a tough schedule this season.

At the halfway point this season there would have been happy faces in almost every category for both offense and defense, which was more impressive for the defense because it didn't have as much room to improve.

Good perspective for the stats. We definitely improved in key areas on offense, but definitely broke down on defense.

Side-note. Why can't I give you a "Thanks", Roy? For what it's worth,. Good post.
