Team talks to Jermaine Wiggins

ditto ... better then what we have now.
And there is no way he'll cost us that much.
Worth a shot i suppose, just incase we dont get a stud TE in the draft.
 
I've seen him alot and he has great hands and makes plays in the passing game. Got fat and lazy with the Vikes after some success IMO. Tice I'm sure had alot to do with him going to Jax. If motivated he is a good TE. Big IF though.

As of now we have no legit TE - Martin has upside but seems lazy and not consistent. IMO Peele is terrible. Worst supposed blocking TE I have ever seen. He blew alot of blocks last year. Wiggins would be no worse than Martin and if it saves money why not look into it. As for Peele there is no way this staff keeps him - I don't see his value at all. No threat to catch the ball and no big add blocking.
 
We could have upgraded with Bubba Franks who is 6'5" 265 lbs.

Franks is a prototype TE in size and ability and a 3-time pro bowler.

Jermaine WIggins is a super over-achiever but at 6'2" 270 lbs is a butterball. I would rather have a big body athletic guy for blocking and route running than just a wide body.
 
Wiggins is a decent player. Nice hands. Wont make huge plays out of the passing game, but is reliable when thrown to. Better than anything we have now. I like him as a 2nd TE. Sign him get rid of Martin. Keep Peele and Ryan.

Dont forget he caught the last pass on the first Patsies SB win that set up Vinatieri's game winner. Pretty clutch catch at that point in a championship game.

I also met the guy several times. He is smaller than I thought he would be when seeing him in person(not that he isnt a big man). His wife is from this area and he was living here when he signed with Carolina. His kids went to a school where I did some work. When I walked in and saw him he was telling the teacher who he was there to pick up....he said Wiggins and I asked him if he was kin to Jermaine :lol: Thats why I said he was smaller than I imagined he would be. Cant believe I said that to him. He was like...I am Jermaine. Spoke to him for a bit. Nice guy. Because I was bigger than he was I thought he mightve been the kids uncle or something and not Jermaine himself.
 
how is the hate for justin peele warranted? he was one of the most productive second TEs in the league. He rarely dropped balls thrown his way (at least i dont remember any), and made some clutch first downs. The guy will never be a starter... but jeez... give him a break.

At worst, he doesn't shape up and gets cut in camp. At best, he beats out Martin (please, please, please) and lessens the need for Parcells and Ireland to draft a TE this year, allowing them more flexibility to focus on other positions in the draft.

We need to draft a TE regardless, this may be the weakest position on team outside of line. A good TE would help a young Qb whoever he may be.
