"Saban said part of the problem with the blocking for the running game was the high use of eight-man fronts and blitzes by Chicago. The tactics by the Bears were somewhat odd for an exhibition game, but not something that couldn't have been handled with some normal preparation typical of the regular season"

This is exactly like last year where they dared us to throw the ball...If you have eight man up front, there is no respect at all from our passing game even though we got Chambers and Booker running good routes. The Bears started the preseason the same way the Ravens ended their season against us.

This will be true until we can prove we can beat a team with the passing game. We will this year, and it will enable us to become a much more balanced football team. It won't take long for teams to start respecting our passing game.

Honestly, will you ever change your Username? Fiedler is already benched.. on ANOTHER TEAM no less!

Been wondering that myself since the Jets signed him. Maybe you can change it to UNbenchfiedler because we want him playing against, so the defence can get revenge on him.

We wont get respect and shouldnt get respect until we earn it... If it does well, it wont take long to see those 8-man fronts disappear...

Nasty

Hmmm, in fact the 8 man front was VERY succesful against Jamal Lewis one year, so in my opinion, you don't have to be mad about the running game.

Because when even Ravens coudn't do a thing about, then who can? :)

The eight man front with blitzes will be effective until you can pick up the blitz and make people pay... AJ didn't have much time to get the ball off.... its all about the blocking.

IMO Since your qb's lack mobility, teams will blitz you guys a lot and dare you to beat them in the air just like they did when Drew was our QB unless your OL turns out to be the great wall of china. Especially teams that think their cb's can handle your wr's in 1 on 1 coverage. Drew was one of the worst if not the worst qb under pressure.

I'm glad the Bears chose to "show their hand" a little bit by using all those blitzes and 8 man fronts. It was good PRACTICE for us.

I believe Losman will see the same thing.

Did not see the game, but did see some of the stats:

on Monday we had 24 1st Downs, thats 52 % of the total 1st Downs we had in the 4 Pre-Season games last year...

We also had 341 Passing Yards, thats 44 % of the total Passing Yards we had in the 4 Pre-Season games last year...

I guess, whether it's the new gameplan or playing against 2nd and 3rd teamers, that is what this offense can do...

This will help in opening up the running game...

Don't mean to stray too far from the topic, but what year was that? Jamal Lewis has never avg less than 4.3 ypc in a year since playing in the NFL. His overall avg is 4.7 ypc Plus which he's always avg over 1,000 per season. I'm not trying to be rude here, however I think you're thinking of someone else.

Please se my post from Yesterday.

I explained wvweything about the post a St. Nicks comments. All of you guys worried about Errick and crying for Ronnie to make it to camp.... It won't matter. We need to get our QB's and O line to get the 8th man out of the box and back on the hash where he belongs about 10 15 yrds back. Once we hit chamber and Bost on a few deep 20-30 yrd balls the 8th man will be gone . Until then NO RUNNING GAME.

I agree and it isn't because he's imobile but because he's a rookie. the difference is that once he shows he beat the blitz w/ his legs or by rolling out, teams will want to keep him in the pocket like they do Vick. They key here is JP being able to read a blitz.

8 man fronts will continue until we prove we can beat them. I expect a lot of blitzing as well...its just part of life after a 4-12 season and ranking at the bottom of the pack in passing. This is why I want Ronnie to get into camp so badly. His blocking ability will really help with the blitz, and will make an awesome check down guy. If our QB's can throw with some accuracy, our receivers have plenty of talent to get behind the D and 8 man fronts will disappear.
