OK say what you want about him as a receiver, but there is just no denying that Ted Ginn is top 3 if not #1 returner in the ENTIRE NFL ...

stats this year:

Kick Return attempted - 36 (10'th)
Kick Return yardage - 1009 (7'th)
Kick Return average - 28.0 (3'rd) #1 is at 29.0.
Kick Return TDs - 2 (1'st)

He's had multiple returns of 40+ as well I'm trying to find the stats as to where he ranks in returns of 40+ yards... from this info there is no denying that he is ELITE in the return game and a real weapon back there.. in his rookie year he was leading the league in punt return categories as well..

yeah hes up ther i wouldnt say number 1 hes tied with percy harvin for 1st in touchdowns and percy harvin has 5 returns for 40 plus and ginn has 4

I think he is in the top 5 to 8 but to be the best he would need to be scoring more TD's than the two he has even though he's #1 in that category. Of course I am basing my opinion on a judgment and not statistical. If he could be more effective on punts, then for sure. I have in my mind a Devon Hester type impact on the game and Ginn is not there yet. Although, if Miami focuses Ginn on kick returns I think over time Ginn will settle in that role and start having a Hester type impact.

The thing is, Ginn's big numbers came from one game. The rest he's had some good returns, but he's been too inconsitent.

No doubt that he's up there though!

Not the best...I'd say Harvin is better for sure and when healthy Leon Washington too... but Ginn is def top 5

True but he also hasn`t been doing it all year either!

The bottom line with Ginn is that even though his average is fantastic, it is owing almost entirely to those two TD's that he got against the Jets. And while two TD's is undeniably good for a KR to net in a single season (much less a single game), he simply has too many returns that don't go anywhere that it's hard to consider him the best in the league. One of the most dangerous, definitely, but the best in the league at any position is the one that will more often than not make something positive happen.

Ginn also got those two TD's in a game where he was clearly playing with some inspiration and a genuine desire to make something happen, something that lacks pretty much every time he gets the ball and runs out of bounds 5 yards from the closest defender. He made those returns happen through sheer will, but at the NFL level he has displayed that type of tenacity incredibly infrequently.

I'll bet he is also in the top 10 in returns that don't make it to the 20. He puts us in more BAD field position than he does good. If you start 4 times inside your 20, one good 40 yard return may average out the stats but not in the damage done to the team.
Cobb was a MUCH better returner when it came to getting us good field position on every return.

I just hope we use those misleading stats on Al Davis next offseason when neg. his trade, if not just cut him. He is a cancer. We will never go far with him on the team.

I said the exact same thing earlier in the year, before Cobbs got hurt, when we had to deal with the constant Ginn not returning threads.

Ginns problem is exactly what ktownfinfan pointed out, he makes too many bad returns. if cobbs was healthy id almost rather have him return kicks.

wow..........

Cobbs over Ginn returning kicks are you guys serious?!?!?????????

I don't think Cobbs even made it past the 30 yd line ONCE all season......

To really end this argument, let's say we asked this question to any NFL special teams unit... Would you rather defend against Cobbs on a kickoff? or Ginn? What special teams group is seriously gonna say they'd rather defend against Ginn????!?!
