When the Dolphins drafted Ginn with the No. 9 pick, Cam Cameron famously was booed as he discussed drafting Ginn’s family and his value as a return man.

Sure, Ginn isn’t Devin Hester. Who is?

But Ginn rarely looks capable of handling the job. On Tuesday, Ginn dropped a punt, which is nothing new for him in the NFL.
Considering he set a Big Ten record with six TDs on punt returns, Ginn was expected to be a weapon in the return game, especially on punts. While he’s shown flashes of brilliance, he makes too many concentration lapses to earn Tony Sparano’s trust.
Last season, many questioned the wisdom of replacing Ginn with Davone Bess. But unlike Ginn, Bess handles the ball cleanly, drops nothing and head up field fearlessly.

Ginn;s struggles in returns are perplexing and bothersome. This is the one area he should be special in. The big advantage Bess has is he is safe but he should not be our returnman.

I remember correctly a few times last year when we were behind and we needed a big play Sparano had Ginn back there returning the kicks.

Seems like he's focused more on getting out of bounds and not getting hit than anything else.

I was sure when we drafted him that at the very least we'd have a special returner and a mediocre receiver.

We ended up with a somewhat decent receiver (getting better) and average return man.

At this rate looks like Pat White is going to be an immobile but accurate pocket passer. Turner will be a deep threat but poor over the middle and in the red zone.

the mystery becomes clearer when you understand the Ginn family doesn't WANT to return punts.

Hopefully Cobbs gets a legit chance at returning Punts and Kickoffs. He looked very good on Kickoffs when given the opportunity late last season. I was hoping Ginn would be a great returner for us, but doesn't look like that's going to happen. I like him as a kick returner, but no thanks as a punt returner, he's got skills there, but his muffed punts and over concentrating on who's going to be the first to tackle him are disturbing.

I don't really like ginn returning nething. He returns kicks like its backyard football, running backwards etc. That doesn't work in this league. Run str8 If u see a hole punch it hard but once u slow up u lose yards even if he got lucky a few times. And cam is such a goon and fool. No one wants there number 1 guy returning kicks. And u don't draft a strictly kick returner at 9

That being said I think ginn has potential and works hard but this year is either break out or ship out imo

P.s. White will b mobile give the kid time, and turner is good but I'm tellin u hartline is the guyy I just have a feelin from what I been hearing

In terms of punt returning I think that the problems are indecision and a lack of quickness. I'm all for him returning kickoffs though, he's had bad luck in terms of penalties/callbacks. Still has much to prove, though. I haven't been a big supporter of him, but nonetheless I'm looking forward to seeing what he does this year at WR and kickoff returns.

I think the less one focuses on returns the worse they get. There was a noticeable dropoff for Hester once he became a full time wide receiver last year.
