There is a constant talk of whether or not Ginn gets open and how this affects his overall numbers so I rewatched the game and kept track of each pass play and whether or not Pennington looked Ginn's way and what happened when he did.

Here are the results (some pass plays were called back due to penalty but I counted them if they were played out)

Ted Ginn was on the field for 32 plays. Of those 32 plays, Pennington:

Never looked to Ginn's side: 18 times
Passed to Ginn: 3 times (caught 2)
Tried to pass to Ginn but pass rush prevented him: 4 times
Looked at Ginn but didn't pass to him: 4 times
Looked to Ginn's side but went with first read short pass: 3 times

So when Chad did look Ginn's way he threw to him or tried to throw to him 7 times out of 14.

I did my best to be as accurate as possible. I'm sure I missed a couple looks and what not but overall I think it's pretty accurate. On the plays that I deemed that Chad was trying to throw to Ginn it was very obvious that he was as he. On one he threw it away behind Ginn because he was about to get hit and on the other three he pumped towards him but had to pull it down and scramble. On those plays it is very clear that he is looking towards Ginn.

So basically Ginn was a viable option on 50% of the passes where his side of the field was where the first reads were. I don't know if that's good or not but he was clearly a target for Penny more than just the two catches he had.

I'm not sure how you calculate what a viable option is. When you see Penny look at Ginn's side of the field...what do you see? Does Penny have the time to throw to Ginn...was Ginn open...or was he covered. What kind of route was Ginn running at the time?

Just too many items to try to figure out...without seeing the real tapes..the coaches tapes.

Basically on 18 of the 32 plays Penny simply didn't look towards Ginn's side of the field. Obviously I can only keep track of what I see so I could only say whether Ginn looked at him and whether or not he threw it.

It has its limitations but more information can never hurt.

Nice job on the research and putting the stats together! I'm sure that took some time. Kudos!

Season ticket holder who has literally witnessed Pennington look Ginn's way, see him one on one down field, and check down. He's afraid to throw down field unless he absolutely has to. Period.

Yeah - no. You can't see if a receiver is open unless you have the coaches tape.

but thanks for the effort, nonetheless.

You can't tell whether he is open but what I find useful is the fact that Pennington only looked his way 14 times and he threw to him or wanted to throw to him half of those times.

Ginn can't catch a pass if his QB doesn't look at him.

Which I find so strange because when Pennington has thrown it up to him, Ginn has made the play. Both times in the Jets game, the Seahawks game, the Bills game. Ginn has shown that he'll fight for the ball but Pennington is still reluctant.

Now that is what I'm talking about. If only we had that view for every play. In the first video Ginn was definitely open if Penny was willing to make that throw to the sidelines. The second play Ginn was clearly open but I'll give Penny a break since he didn't have time.

These videos make me happy that Ginn can get open but also extremely angry that Pennington won't throw the ball to him. The worst video is definitely the first since he doesn't even look down the field and instead throws to the runningback when their is a defender 3 yards away. And if you watch Camarillo going over the middle he is wide open as the safety over there follows the tight end.

No matter the amount of help, it is some and it was a lot of time invested. Thank you. Now he tried going to him 7 times.. And we pass the ball around a lot to, 3-4 WR's, TE, RB's.. That's actually where it should be for Ginn. No problem from me then. Just hope he gets the time and confidence to throw it to Ginn.

where are all the PENNY IS OUR SAVIOR HTE O LINE IS THE PROB AND GINN IS THE PROB POSTERS?

like i said, with henne this isn't the case. Penny doesn't look his way b/c he konws he can't deliver the ball there so why waste his time looking.

why does ginnw aste his time runnign? look how open he was in the 22 mb file...that was a perfect play i said that he NEVER throws to the sideline b/c he CAN'T and ppl said RW pass was to the sideline (which was the flats 3 yards out lmaoo).

like i said BENCH penny put HENNE
