Excellent read and great article! I really enjoyed it! I like how you pointed out Quinn's stats compared to Manning's. I think we should definitely take Quinn if he slips to us. I would even consider moving up a spot or two if necessary.

I like what you did but after watching Quinn play the past two years, I'm bothered by what seems to be a trend with him. He starts slow when Notre Dame is in their base offense or first half but thrives when the open things up and the teams imploy a "prevent defense" against them. He did this against Michigan State and UCLA this past year but couldn't get it done against LSU.

You're right. Minny's got their man at QB, they need WR and secondary help, but Houston will most likely deal David Carr (who's not suited to run Kubiak's style of offense) and acquire Jake Plummer. They could still draft Quinn but they have too many other holes to fill. And that is if Kubiak is enamored with Brady Quinn and knows that he can run his brand of offense. If that would happen I wouldn't mind David Carr coming to Miami. He's suffered in Houston since the teams' inception with no pass protection and no #2 receiving threat. We would have to get a speedy veteran WR *LIKE* a Randy Moss though so Carr can have his vertical game going and get better pass protection than he had in Houston, which is something I think we will have next season as long as we don't do another overhaul of the OL and just acquire a sold LT, or LG, and let Rex and Seth battle for the starting center position. I think Fonoti could be a surprise if we re-sign him and let him battle with a FA pick-up like Derrick Dockery. Kris Dielman would be ideal but I don't see the Chargers letting him go w/o getting compensation. Personally, I would trade our 39th pick for Dielman, but a guy like Dockery is a guy who is under the radar and Washington already has one of the highest paid Guards in the league in their RG Randy Thomas so Dockery could very well be a possibility as long as he doesn't want the kind of $$ elite Guards in the NFL get. We could release Jeno and free up some cap-space and even go after Eric Steinbach who could even play LT in an emergency situation. He's a very tall Guard at 6'6" and does not have the size of the prototypical Houck OL but he's talented but would be expensive none the less. (I still curse the day Spielman chose to not offer a contract to Cincy's current starting RG who was at the time coming off of a few solid seasons with Philly, Bobbie Williams, who was relatively cheap at the time and has played very good football ever since we passed on him. Naturally.) And now, I don't think it would take too much to trade up to #6 to Washington's spot since they don't have another pick until the 5th round, but it would take even less for Houston seeing as how they are picking 1 spot ahead of us. If we traded all the way up to Arizona's 5th pick then we'd be sitting in a great spot to grab a player who has the potential to be a franchise player at his position. Whether it's at QB (Russell, Quinn) OT (Joe Thomas--highly doubtful) WR (Calvin Johnson) and since the teams before us (if they stay where they are) include OAK, DET, CLE, and TB then there's a chance all four of those guys could be gone and we'd get a guy we probably could've had if we stayed at 9th overall. So I guess moving up wouldn't be the best thing for us unless the picks were already in and one of those 4 were still on the board (except for Joe Thomas cuz Arizona would have to be, well the Arizona Cardinals, to trade away the chance to get their biggest need by selecting the only blue-chip LT in this entire draft at this point) But if Russell, Quinn, or Calvin Johnson would be available still at #5 then I wouldn't mind seeing us trade up to get one of those guys and how they're ranked at this point in the pre-Combine off-season. But my dream would be for Brady Quinn to fall to us at the 9th pick. So many scenarios, so much time to discuss this. Until the actual Draft in late-April we can all expect speculation to go on and on and on...

. I really don't like trading up, but depending on who is still available, I wouldn't be too opposed to it. I think there is a decent chance that Quinn slides to us if Detroit passes on him. Personally, I think that they should go after Thomas, but thankfully I'm not Matt Millen, so who knows what they're gonna do. I'd be surprised if Cleveland took him considering how many needs they have and that both Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson are still young and could become a decent starter. That leaves only Houston as the only team that could possibly draft Quinn, but once again they have a lot of holes and could simply address the need via free agency or a trade. Hopefully nobody trades up in front of us and takes Quinn, that would be quite an unexpected and depressing move IMO.

QB is our most important need. We need a centerpiece to build this franchise around. This franchise has no future at the QB spot

I think comparing college stats is pretty worthless unless you have players from the same year with similar opponents, i.e. same conference.
