As of today, Jason Taylor has 10 pass defenses on the season. Second on the team.

He has more pass defenses than anybody in the secondary, with the exception of Yeremiah Bell....as a defensive end.

People mistake what that stat means. It means touched the ball. JT gets tons of knockdowns at the line. The best CBs generally have LOW PD numbers. Not saying our secondary is the best, but it's a relatively random statistic.

Well that's obviously what it means, but what you said about the pass defense numbers for the secondary is incorrect.

Of the top 31 players in passes defensed, only one of them is not a cornerback or safety (London Fletcher). Champ Bailey, oft considered the league's best corner, has 17, which is two off of the league's best.

Jason is leading defensive linemen in passes defensed.

You're both sort of right. Sometimes a DB with a lot of PD's simply means that he isn't that great, is getting picked on, but still manages to get his hands in front of alot of passes and knock them down.

Most of the time however, a DB (or any position for that matter) with a lot of PD's means that they are simply in good position to make a play. Evidence of this can be seen by the 8 DB's who are currently leading the league in Passes Defensed:

Anthony Henry: 19 PD's
Rashean Mathis: 18
Lito Shepard: 18
Champ Bailey: 17
Chris McAlister: 17
Jonathan Joseph: 17
Asante Samuel: 17
Charles Woodson: 17

Now that is a pretty impressive list of corners and I really don't think that any of these guys fit the category of being picked on by the QB (save for Joseph but only because he's a rook. Also, Joseph by the way has played absolutely stellar this season as proven by his insertion into the starting lineup over Deltha O'Neil).

The poster was right that most DE's get their PD's at the line of scrimmage but that doesn't make their PD any less effective. For anyone other than a DB to have that many PD's is simply amazing. If Taylor doesn't win DPOY this season something is seriously wrong.

teams that have corner's with a high nhumber of PD's tend to run a high number of zone plays using there corners whereas miami's d is based around man coverage appart from the safeties who are in zone. hence why bell leads PD's for miami

My point was that Jason Taylor has defensed/knocked down a lot of passes. Don't know why people are struggling with this so much.

He bats down a lot of balls at the line of scrimmage...and that is something that wasn't really a part of his game until 2004. Prior to that year he only knocked down 3 or 4 a year, and he's been in double digits since every year.
