Here is my list of The Jilted 10:

1. Thurman Thomas, RB, Buffalo. I continue to be amazed at the lack of an uproar when he didn't make it last year. He's one of those guys who everyone says, "Oh, don't worry. He'll get in.'' Probably so, but I've heard that said about too many people over the years, people who never got in. So I take nothing for granted. Thomas was the most versatile running back over a six- or seven-year period, and he was the reason the Buffalo offense kept so many long drives alive. Only one Hall of Fame back, Walter Payton, has more catches than Thomas' 472. This guy's lock city. Or should be.

2. Mick Tingelhoff, C, Minnesota. Two numbers say it all: seven years All-Pro, more than any other center in NFL history (not counting Jim Otto's AFL awards), and 240 consecutive games. The man never missed a game due to injury for 15 years. At center! I've always felt he was unfairly singled out for the Minnesota Super Bowl losses and for getting beat on a few memorable plays. You don't play that long without being a great football player. And Tingelhoff was.

3. Michael Irvin, WR, Dallas. Three knocks on Irvin I always hear. 1) He cheated: He held and pass-interfered when the officials couldn't see. 2) He was a mess off the field. 3) Dallas will have Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith (and maybe Larry Allen) in the Hall when this era's team is considered. That's enough. Poppy****. This man was the leader of the Cowboys, pure and simple. The leader. And he was a great player who simply refused to lose. I know it's a cliché, but ask anyone around that team -- Aikman, Jimmy Johnson, Jerry Jones. It's absurd he hasn't made it. And re: the off-the-field stuff, we are not allowed to bring those considerations into the meeting room. Only what happened between the lines should matter. Catching 750 balls for a three-time Super Bowl winner and being the key guy in the locker room on game days ... that should make him a gimme.

i guess the NFL smiles on players that dont change teams through-out thier careers...unless they are Absolutely brilliant on the field(emmet)....Thurman i dont think because of his catching prowess alone should be alowed in the hall...walter peyton is in because he ran the ball....very well. i was still very young while Thomas was with Buff and even when he came to miami.... but he just didnt strike me as the "Answer" for any backfield...he was a pretty good player...but Canton Deserves "great" and not "good"

Im sure most of those guys will eventually get in. Thats the problem when they only let in a handful a year. some years there are more than a handful that deserve it

i agree with them adding thurman and irvin on this list cause they have only been on the list for 1 year

and i dont think parcells should be in until after he permanetly retires
and IMO thats why he isnt in the hall yet

8. Bob Kuechenberg, G, Miami. SI.com's Paul Zimmerman rails every year about Kuechenberg belonging. I've come around on the Dolphins offensive lineman. For a long time I felt that because the center on that Miami team, Jim Langer, and the other guard, Larry Little, were in the Hall, that was enough for one line. I am convinced that Kuechenberg was better at his position than Langer was at his, so why penalize him because one of his linemates is in and maybe is only a borderline guy?

as well you know, I am a strong advocate of Bob going in.

I believe Thurman Thomas is the only player in NFL history to lead the league in yards from scrimmage for 4 straight seasons. He is one of 4 backs in league history with over 400 receptions along with Walter/Faulk/Allen. He was offensive player of the year in like 91. Him not being a 1st ballot HOF was a joke. Tough for me to say that as a Dolphins fan. Also his performance in SB 25 was incredible, it's hard to give a guy the SB MVP when his team loses but he deserved it over Otis Anderson, IMO.

ray guy is #1 for me. how can the best player in the history of the game at their position get passed over?

You obviously know nothing about football or watched very little of it in the early to mid-90s. Thurman wasn't the "answer" for any backfield? He was NFL MVP in '91 (and a candidate many other years), the only player ever to lead the league in total yards for four consecutive seasons, and is arguably the greatest multi-purpose back ever. He is a better runningback than any other team in the AFC East has ever had. Ever.

Should Thurman Thomas be in the HOF? YES!!

Is he a better runningback than any other team in the AFC East has ever had? No!!

The easy one is Curtis Martin (I hate when I am forced to back a Jet!!). He’s #4 on the All-Time rushing list (Thurman is #12). He’s also, ahead of Thurman Thomas on the all-time Yards-from-Scrimmage list (Curtis is #7, Thoms #8). Total TD’s?? Curtis-100, Thurman Thomas-88. Oh, and Curtis is still playing. So how is it that he is better?? He’s just not, shouldn’t even be an argument.

Now, there are a couple of other guys who are right there with him – Larry Csonka and OJ Simpson.

And, if you want to get technical – The Colts had three guys who I would put ahead of him playing for them when they were in the AFC East – Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk and Edgerrin James.

You need to remember that Thomas played the majority of his career with one of the most high-powered passing offenses of the last 20 years. There were a lot of balls to go around in Buffalo.

OJ and Faulk (whose best years were NOT in the East) are the only ones you've mentioned that, thus far (James could end up better), are in Thomas' league as a multi-purpose back. Martin is certainly very durable and a certain Hall-of-Famer, but he was never the overall dangerous threat that Thomas was.
