The Miami Dolphins haven’t produced a winning season since 2008, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t reasons for optimism heading into this season. Adam Gase - one of the NFL’s young, up-and-coming coaches - has replaced Joe Philbin, and the roster has undergone a massive makeover led by new General Manager Chris Grier. With the start of the 2016 season just over 100 days away, here are 10 reasons for Dolphins fans to be positive:
Omar Kelly

2. In Cameron Wake, Ndamukong Suh and Mario Williams the Dolphins have three Pro Bowl talents on the defensive lineWilfredo Lee / AP
While all three, who have produced 208 career sacks collectively, are in or approaching their 30s, they have each been dominant defensive linemen that opponents need to game-plan against. Together, they could be a forceful trio if everyone can stay healthy.

He pretty much covered why I am optimistic...I'll add a couple other points for me:

1) We should see tougher running with Ajayi (and possibly Foster) in the near future...Drake should be up to giving us what Lamar Miller did.

2) Jakeem Grant gives a home run chance on every return...Jarvis has been great at it, but Jakeem takes it up a notch.

.

Adding to the Suh, Williams, Wake trio, my concern has been the 2nd DT. My hope was that Phillips would supplant Mitchell or that Chris Jones would force him from the team altogether. At this point all you can hope is that he knows he needs to get better and is willing to work for it.

Fortunately that has been the case in the first week of OTA's. He acknowledged that he was disappointed in last years performance and is working on his craft. He was given 1st team reps in practice. If he steps up 30-40% in his second year, we have the makings of a dominant line. If Chris Jones is healthy, we have an even better chance.

I am not falling for the defensive line again. Went through that last year and had denial on our lack of run defense all year.
I'll wait and see. Almost three seasons with a porous run defense. We need to play better from the middle in.

That's why we added Alonso, Chris Jones, (backup), Mario, and Isu on the back end. They are known to halt the run.

A below average team with a below average QB, rookie HC equals 5-11

Isn't that what could have been said about the Jets last year and they hit 10-6. Hmmm you really never know.

I think football is fundamental. If we can stop the run, things can fall into place. WE HAVE TO STOP THE RUN. We have to get the defense off the field, have better offensive field positions, have more reps on the field offensively. 13/24/24/28 - That has been the rush defense the last 4 years. There is no sugar coating those stats. Opposing teams are on the field too much, our offense cannot get their scheme executed. Yes they have to start faster, but because they couldn't, the defense did not help. being down 13-0 late in the first half has to be a them that stops.

anything less than 9-7 is fail season.

Very possible but don't think 8-8 would be a fail.

The phins are no worse than last yr. So... give them a 1 game improvement for Gase and his ability to adapt/strategize, 1 for VJ actually scheming around what talent he has, 1 game total for upgrades to the OL & secondary.
