Tepid endorsement of Hunter Long

I do agree that TE is one of the tougher positions to acclimate to. I do have a bit of confidence that Long will be a decent blocker. IMO he was already the best blocking TE on the team last season and this system fits him well. I'm less confident that he will breakout as a receiver. I think he still has some developing to do in his route running and recognition. I don't anticipate a ton of opportunities so even if he is vastly improved in his route running, etc., we may not notice.

Before Long got injured his rookie season, I liked what I was seeing....and then it was like he was forgotten about. He is a very smooth route runner, with very little wasted motion. He gets open quick for a TE. Hopefully this regime can get him back on track.

Kid has his work cut out for him. It took Gesicki and Smythe a long time to develop and they aren’t going to give up snaps willingly. They’ve earned the right to be way ahead of him. Even Shaheen is far more polished at this point. Long could be a good player but he’s in a pretty stacked unit.

TEs historically take time to develop in the NFL. You all that are already writing him off or calling him a bust need to chill. Give the kid some time.
Agreed but the issue for him is he has to take snaps away from solid players ahead of him. He’s in a tough spot.

Oh I agree for this year. He’s going to have to show enough in practice, and in the limited opportunities he gets to make someone expendable next year. I agree that he is in a tough situation to “break out” this year, but if he shows enough in his opportunities this year it could be next season for him to really show what he can do.

Liked what you were seeing? He had 1 catch in 90 offensive snaps.

That's nothing against the guy. He didn't have an opportunity.
