Is this the worst special teams units we have ever had? Has our kickoff return team gotten past the 25 yet? This isn't all Welker's fault although he has to be the slowest return guy in the NFL. Have we had a punt return lately where there have not been at least 2 guys from the other team in his face or at least within 2 yards? Do we block at all? We may as well try and block every kick because we sure as heck don't block for the return. I've never seen such terrible returns. The only hope is on punt returns every now and then Wes will take a short kick and beat the pressure. I have to believe that Saban is kicking himself for keeping Armstrong - why would you want anyone associated with Wanny? It's just amazing how the other team breaks through our blocking so easily. It's really sad to see yesterday that the Bills had their punt coverage guys practically beating the punt down there.

Donnie Jones has played pretty well IMO... and Wes Welker is doing pretty good on punt returns, but terrible on kick-off returns.

Whine?
Welker isn't the slowest, he's #28 out of #39 in returns, the fins are #17 in the league in returns.

Who blocks kicks? Yea, that happens week in and week out.

Armstrong? Whoooa, hahaha.

Yea, the Bills had excellent punt coverage and their ST unit can feel good about that this week.

our ST's have been middle of the pack...our punter is having a probowl saeason...Mare's missed some but he's made his share too(a little inconsisten the last 3 years or so)...Welker has done good with not much blocking for him....we've cover pretty good for the most part......they're not winning the games for us but they're not losing them either.

Ozzy rules!!

Welker is good on kick-offs and would be good on punts if he had room

I think we have average SP with an outstanding Punter. Even when he shanks one they are hard to catch. (See Sunday)

didn't you remember last year? we had an awesome special teams unit. armstrong's not the problem.

Armstrong is not the problem at all. He's a very good coach, look what he did with Donnie Jones, someone everybody considered a risk. Jones could very well make the pro bowl this year.
If you're talking about yesterday, let me remind you that Buffalo's special teams is among the best in the league.

Welker is a very good special teamer, and I think we should use him as a receiver a LOT more. He seems to give it his all every play.

Welker the slowest??? Who U been watchin'? Kat's got some jets fer wheels!!

I have to Admit that Welker hasn't been as spectacular as he was last year. Still I would say he is a little above average this year.

Now what he hasn't done on Kick off and Punts he has made up in his recieving skills.

As for our ST play, I our returns have been pretty weak but, the coverage has been excelent with the exception of the tackle Donnie Jones had to make yesterday. Even though he laid a lick on little Roscoe.

You are right - #28 is pretty good - that will get you to the playoffs - right? #17 is below avg last I checked and is the goal to be avg? I like the rebuilding and am okay with losing while these guys get better but I don't see the ST's improving - actually I see the opposite. That's not a whine - that's an observation.

Not us that's for sure. I didn't say anyone did it - my point is that with how bad our blocking is we might as well try since blocking for Wes isn't working - it was a joke - being sarcastic - never mind.

Armstrong? Whoooa, hahaha.

Do I sense a bit of ****iness with the win? It's amazing how 1 play can change an attitude. That game could have gone either way and if Buffalo for some reason didn't decide to stop blitzing off the ends with their LB's we probably would be sulking today. I like the direction this team is going. Everyone knew there would be bumps and learnings along the way but the one area I see zip out of is ST's. True Buffalo has one of the better units so why shouldn't we compare ourselves to them. If we don't measure up then it's not acceptable. That's the Saban way in my opinion. Avg is not good enough. Buffalo has a return guy that can fly. Sorry I like Wes but he is NOT a burner and is not going to blow by anyone. He can't even get passed the 25 on kickoffs. I do like his sure hands on punt returns though.

What have I been watching - are you serious? Jets fer wheels? WoW! I'll wager that if Wes and Gilmore ran a 100 yard dash that Gilmore may beat him by 20 yards. Okay not to exaggerate - may 15. Actually they should probably only race 25 yards since that's as far as Wes will get on a kickoff return anyways so maybe it's only 5 yards.

Miami has one of the best punt coverages in the league. From what I understand that is part of special teams

Are you saying Armstrong is responsible for Donnie Jones? Seriously? We have a kicking coach as well - might he not have more to do with it than Keith? Look around the league at the top ST's. We are good at covergae but we suck at returns. It's been like that for a long time. Please don't credit Armstrong for a kicker - that is crazy. I suppose you would say he found him too right? As for Buffalo they should be a bench mark for our unit and we are not even close to their level. That's a problem area and I look at the coaching. Remember Wanny got rid of Westhof for this guy becuase he wanted to be surrounded by his buddies (remember Wise and Armstrong both coming in at the same time).
