is a master recruiter. This guy has to be one of the best. In his 07 class he's got 6 top 100 recruits including another 7 footer committed. On top of that, he's already got commitments from 4 guys in the top 25 of their class coming in his 08 class including another 7 footer. Add that to his class this year and this guy is taking college recruiting to another level. Expect him to be in the Final Four many years to come. Check it out!

I wouldn't exactly call Thad Matta a master recruiter yet. Since he started with Bulter and Xavier, this was his 1st great class which was basically handed to him. Conley Jr, was commited to whatever school Oden attended so that was a great pickup. This one class has certainly put Matta in a good position for the next few year in recruiting and it shows. You have to recruit more than one great class to become a master like Krzyzewski, Calhoun, Williams, Olsen etc.

Your joking right? This was his first great recruiting class because Ohio St. was a mess when he took the job over. Dude, the program is on PROBATION and he still managed to recruit the players he has, including the prized posession of last years class who has got him to the championship game. Of course he never got great classes at Butler and Xavier, no one does. Those programs are lucky if they make the top 25 recruiting classes. He's a great coach who now gets the top talent because he's finally at a prominent University that is able to lure players of Oden's talent. Check Motta's track record at Xavier and Butler. He's got a great track record. Expect him to stick around the top of the college b-ball ranks for a while!

1) I totally disagree. Motta is a master recruiter

2) Who the hell has Coach K recruited the past few years for him to still be in the discussion of "master recruiters"

So 1 great class makes you a master recruiter. Nobody was calling Billy Donovan a master recruiter till recently, and he took a football school who had finished once in the top 25 to a championship game 3 years after he started. 7 years later I would label him a master recruiter, he has done it multiple times now. Don't get me wrong I think Thad is a great coach, he has proven that, but I can't call him a master recruiter with one great class since he began coaching in 99'.

he has been impressive but

1.Kustafa Kufos (The 7 footer he's got coming in next year) is not nearly as good as Oden and is more peremeter oriented. If Oden leaves, Ohio Statewill struggle mightily. They will still be very good as long as they have Conley, but Kufos is horrible defensively.

2.Don't put too much into next years class yet, the rankings will change quite a bit in one year. (IE. McRoberts starting at 12 a couple years ago, and was the number 1 recruit in his class, or OJ Mayo falling behind quite a few players this year).

He's definatly done a great job though, but he will never have the dominance he had this year if Oden leaves.

Is John Thompson III a master recruiter yet? He helped recruit Hibbert, Green, and Ewing Jr and he made the Final Four this year. He has a pretty good class coming in next year also. Is it ok to label Tim Floyd a master recruiter yet, he is a decent coach and he has OJ Mayo coming in next year.

After thinking about it, Matta is not a recruiting master yet. Daquan Cook this year and Kofa Kustos next were easy recruits for Ohio State because they're both Ohio Natives, getting Oden was huge because it ment getting Conley as well. Conley and Oden just proved to be extremely dominant players, and the question now is how dominant can Thad's other recruits be.

Look at Tommy Amaker at Michigan. He was able to recruit some talanted players, but none of them ever developed.

Who the hell has Coach K recruited the past few years for him to still be in the discussion of "master recruiters"

He's gotten 8 McDonald's All-Americans in his 05,06, and 07 classes. Problem is McRoberts and Thomas do not fit Duke's system, Paulus is not that good, Scheyer is nothing but a 6-7 JJ Reddick, and Henderson is very raw. I don't know much about the 3 he's got coming in this year, but Kyle Singler is supposedly the best all-around player in this class.

And even with Donovan's success, he's not really a master recruiter either. I don't think Noah,Horford, Green, or Humpries were top notch recruits (though I do know Brewer was). And before these guys he had David Lee, Mike Miller, Matt Walsch, and Anthony Robertson. Thoguh he's got a great PG coming in next year.
