Way to often we pay too much money just to get THE guy, this often (always) puts us in cap hell. Pace got way to much money for what; potential, come on. It's not like he's the piece to put us (or the Jets) over the top. That was one stupid and undeserved contract (good for Pace) if I've ever seen one (ala AL Davis). We as fans can get caught up in this guy or that guy so I'm glad to see someone in charge who's making smart decisions for now AND the future (Cleveland you might want to pay attention). Once again thank-you BP/Ireland, I can't wait to see your next move.

We can lament the move to get depressed (more than we already were after last season) or we can applaud the move to make ourselves feel better. There is no way to tell right now, and one thing is for certain - hindsight will be 20/20.

On to the next decision!

I completely agree. Well said!!! Parcells/Ireland did then right thing in not over paying for pace.

I agree inches...the guy is not worth 22 Million up front in any uniform.

the bad news is the jets are better, the good news is their cap will be wrecked just as we are becoming dominant.

Maybe I just dont get it but we were offering a plenty large contract to Pace with about a 20 million dollar signing bonus from most reports. I dont see how we are such geniuses because the Jets beat us out for a guy we clearly wanted and was clearly going to pay quite a bit of money. Hell we got outbid last year quite a few times and it was not because we were geniuses.Whoever signed Pace was going to overpay and we were quite willing to do that from all accounts. Maybe just maybe the Jets did a better job of convincing Pace to come to the Jets and maybe Ireland and Parcells are not the superman we are making them out to be. Its not like we have been overpaying for free agents alot recently.

i am disappointed we didn't land pace but not for 22mil in guaranteed money..i'm happy we re-signed yerimiah bell..

I'm reminded of another thread, where someone said the Phins are the losers in the AFC east as far as FA goes. Soo many years of mismanagement has left him to believe in the stupid. I see a steady ocean ahead of our Dolphins. Looks like someone in charge now knows what they are doing.

I agree the jets have made some agressive moves in FA, but I'm personally not a fan of that. Those guys need to produce to make it seem worthwhile, which they may, but for us, signing a couple guys to those types of contracts is not the way to rebuild properly. The jets are in a different situation than us. And in a couple years we should be in much better condition. I applaud BP and Ireland for handling FA the way they have so far.

While I'm not surprised that Tunaland declined to bid higher for Pace, I still think Pace is going to break out as a beast in NY. (Just as I thought the same thing about him if he had come here). Just because he chose the Jests over Miami, doesn't mean you can discount his potential.

But, I do agree that I'm glad we didn't spend that money on him. We still have a LOOOOOONG way to go to get back to respectability, Pace would not have been THE player to put us there...

IF and only IF Pace turns out to be a probowl OLB that move will look good, there's a greater chance Pace will be a good OLB and I believe GOOD doesn't deserve that money in a position in which can be filled easily. With you saying we offered 20mil, I never said that was a good move but I don't believe BP came out and said that's what we offered it's just rumour. With Florida taxes he would have came out way ahead signing with us then. I just really like the approach were taking, we will be the ones looking back and saying that these were great moves, especially if some don't turn out,we won't be hurt or restricted under the cap because of any of our signings which = smart decision making.
