so many interesting things about that play.

first of all moore had a tight window, williams was covered pretty good, underrated throw. if its incomplete its 4th and 10 and its doubtful we get it.

williams catches the ball at the 40, if he goes out of bounds right away its 4th and 5 with about 40 seconds left. does gase try a 57-58 yard fg there? i seriously doubt it, so we would have needed to convert 4th and 5.

so even though at the time it looked like williams made a dumb decision not going out of bounds right away, fighting for those 2-3 extra yards got franks into more favorable fg range and staying in bounds forced gase to make a quick decision and kick the fg.

at the time i thought gase should have went for the 1st down, and if we get it either get out of bounds or spike the ball and kick the fg. i didnt think there was any way franks was making that 55 yarder. but all those little things made it possible.

Funny how that worked out. When Franks kicked the ball....there was no way I thought it would even make the goal posts....let alone get over it. Looked low and weak on TV.

That kick took about 2 years off my life.....

I turned off the tv mid kick because it looked so short. What a wanker.

i have since watched it 20+ times on Game Pass.

Agreed. That was a great throw. Don't think Franks' kick could have made it without those yards Williams fought for. Still, think everybody was like WTF are you doing?

That football was like a salmon making its last gasp at the top of the rapids.

Williams should have went out of bounds. That was dumb on his part. But maybe Franks being thrown out there with no time to think was the best thing that could happen. What a crazy 40 seconds that was.

I'd love to know if there was explicit instructions to go for the yards vs OB. After all it's 3rd down near FG range, so yards are at a premium.

Seemed dumb at first agreed, and I was surprised to see the FG unit trotting out there. I guess Gase meant it when he said he had faith in Franks.

And that kick didn't help my faith in him, ugly kick but by God he made it, hell yeah Franks!!!

I admit I couldn't believe we went for the FG. I told my wife "he missed a short try before and now he's going to try a 55 yarder but he made it and that's why Gase is the HC.

Ozzy rules!!

At the time, I was screaming about Williams not going out of bounds. Once I thought about it for a second, I said to my pal that Williams may have saved the game. You have to imagine Gase would have gone for it on 4th down. If we don't convert, game over.

The biggest key was Rex failing to ice Franks. The lack of time available for Franks to think about the kick, I have to imagine it helped him by removing the time for nerves to take over the physical aspect of the kick.
