This thing is BS. If you are down by 8 points at any time during the game, and you score a TD, you go for 2. Wanna know why? Because YOU MAY NOT SCORE AGAIN IN THE GAME. Poeple argue, "it's too early in the game" but what does that mean? There is no guarantee you will score again. You have to take your oppurtunities when you get them. Just my opinion of course.

If you "MAY NOT SCORE AGAIN" does it really matter cause if you MAY NOT SCORE AGAIN you can't win.

Saban did it right last night. He did everytihng perfect. NEVER start chasing points until the 4 quarter.

Mark this date down in history.

I agree with you on something.

Saban made the right move. But in fairness to the original poster, I did see this same scenario bite one team about 10 years ago. My alma mater USC, during John Robinson's second stint as coach, was down 8 in the middle of the 3rd quarter. We scored and Robinson opted for one.

Nobody scored again so we lost by 1 point.

Wrong. If you plan on not scoring again, then you probably are not gonna win anyway. Take your points you can get and go for two at the end of the game.

Too many times teams start going to two way to early & at the end of the game had they just taken the extra point then they would have only been down by one score, instead because of the failed two pointers they are still down by two scores with no chance of winning.

You take the extra points anytime before the mid 4th.

Thank you!!!!! You are exactly right. It is kinda like the seatbelt arguement, there are those who say they don't want to get trapped in a car on fire after a accident with a jammed seatbelt. But the odds have shown over time that seatbelts saves more lives than it cost. Of course there ARE times when the above situation happens but rarely. The same with going for two, if it was such a good idea then why don't teams do it every time in the first place? More often than not if you go for two, two or more times then you are not going to be a 100%. The odds say you won't get them, the defense has too many advantages down on the goal line. With the short field DBs can take away the slant, and there is very little room to run fade routes.

Try it yourselves when playing Madden or whatever you game of choice. There are a lot of online players who do. I love to see it because when they go for it in the first quarter I know I have the game won. The odds don't average out, plain and simple Saban made the right choice.

LOL, not laughing AT ya jus wit ya. 10 years ago?? That proves the point!!! Coaches are paid to put their teams in the best position to win. Of course teams some times in the last 10 years have lost doing the same thing but that jus means they beat the odds. Last night my HS team was up by 4 with less than 4 minutes to play. The other team had not scored a TD all night. We had a 4th and 2 from our own 13 yard line. We tried a punt and it was blocked for the TD and we lost. Does that mean you should always go for a 4th and 2 on your own 13 late in a game?? NO duh, good decisions can still lose ballgames (expecially when some dumba## sophmore named Jeremy Rabon, #43, misses a block to allow the kick to get blocked)

bitter? im a reporter for the herald the game i was covering the kicker missed two extra points. if he had made the first one his team would have won 14-13 in regulation. the second one was in ot and then the other team scored and made thier XP. great game the losing team almost beat the #5 team in Florida on their own homecoming

going for one puts you in a likely scenario where you are behind 4 on the final drive instead of 3. If you make the 2 point conversion you are down by 3 and can tie with a fg. if you are down by 5, well thats the same as down by 4 really.

It has nothing to do with "planning on scoring again." Lets just say we're down 14-6 early in the third, we score TD, and kick the EP, we're now down 14-13. The final score in the game winds up being...14-13. Thats why I always like go for the tie when you can. You never know how many scoring oppurtunities you'll have again.
