I know this is obvious common sense to most of us but I still think some don't get it yet...
#1. The lack of a pass rush.
The team has some very good D-linemen but all of them are big, strong and slow which is great for defending the run but none of them are very good pass rusher. The only true pass rusher we have is Wake and teams are going to give him a ton of attention every week. If someone doesn't step up and provide some pressure then it's going to be a long season.
#2. The MLB's.
The problem IMO is that both Dansby and Burnett are both the same type of player. Yes they both have pretty decent speed for LB's and are pretty good in coverage, and can be playmakers but neither of them are thumpers who are going to fight off blocks all game and still make tackles. If Miami had a tackle machine like Zach Thomas(God do I miss him) to go along with Dansby and/or Burnett the D would be much much better off.
#3. (and the most important one IMO) The S's blow.
Ok, maybe they don't truly suck(although I think Reshad Jones does and isn't anywhere near ready to start) but these guys just don't make plays. For every deep ball I see completed on Vontae, Sean, Benny, Nolan, Will, whoever... I say where the F*** is/was the safety. I understand some of the coverages don't ask for the S to be in that area, but come on.... they are NEVER there to break up a pass deep or even make a tackle as soon as the ball is caught. They are also rarely ever roaming over the middle making WR's pay for coming into that area with a big hit so WTH do these guys do? I keep seeing the LB's get blasted here for not being able to cover TE's but the S's can't cover anybody ever. A true ball hawking, big hitting safety would take this defense to another level.
