The Austin Jackson Affect

Wow. Another factor to consider. Miami was essentially using the passing game to generate running yards. All the screens and passes behind the line of scrimmage, were basically an extension of the run game.

Did that change, when Jackson was hurt? Not sure.

I don't think anyone projected Austin Jackson getting hurt this year.

A lot of hindsight and unwillingness to accept bad breaks. To me, it's a lack of character that the fanbase can't grow a pair and move on from a lost season. Get over it and look forward to the future. The team will invest in a backup swing tackle and some new talent at Guard.

I'll be worried when our problems aren't so obvious that it's not clear what our moves will be.

He’s played 56 games in 5 years. He’s Armstead Jr, you will get 11 games a year out of him on average.

Crazy how many people call Jackson below average. I pointed this out exactly our run game went to **** after he went out. Didn’t know the numbers though so thanks, didn’t realize it was this bad, 55 yards per game is pretty nuts.

I admire what the kid did for his sister, by donating bone marrow. It took a year for him to recover and get stronger. But after that initial hurdle, he worked hard to improve. He's been undervalued, under appreciated and pretty solid since.

Agree......he has been solid and we are clearly a better team with him in the lineup than we are without him....but he does miss a lot of time.

Not unlike Tua, if you are going to have AJ as a main part of your offense, you just need to have a capable back up

Here, here bud. Simply the truth. Too many fans held onto their disappointment til the end of the season and then let their emotions out all at once. Our season had ended like 3 times before that finale.

When I grow up I want to be @Mello Yello.

I do think we missed Jackson's athleticism in the wide zone blocking scheme we run.

We've actually had a decent one in Lamm. The problem is when your OL has Lamm and the guards we've had.

Dude is mid at best and was missed in a big way. Love how the fins approach the o-line ... with contempt.

Injured and mediocre and maybe the best we got. Championship.

AJack is the best 2nd level run blocking OT in the game. Not just good, the best. During the 1st half of last season he was doing some unprecedented good downfield blocking, and we were having historic 2nd level chunk play running success. During this season when he was in, we had a great run success rate, and overall drive success rate. Just SO good, and fun to watch, at some facets of the RT position.

BUT. AJ is injured a LOT. Too much. He's an average pass blocker, and below average short yardage drive blocker. He fits the Damn pattern much of the team is in - some good to great aspects in parts of the game, parts of the team, some units, aspects of the coaching staff, aspects, even, maybe, of the front office and management team. BUT, mediocre, or flat out crap in other parts, aspects, whatever you want to call it. So we're not bad - mostly winning records, sometimes make the playoffs, sometimes just miss - but can't get over the hump, stay healthy, and be a great SB contender.

Sigh.
