CC and RM have obviously decided that Brady Quinn doesn't have the required quality to make it as this team's 15 year franchise QB, picking Ginn over him is about as clear a signal as you'll ever hear. Though I don't agree with them and believe that Brady will eventually be a top 5 QB for 10+ years in Cleveland, the thing I'm more worried about is if they believe John Beck is this team's 15 year frachise QB...
If they do, then I'm very pleased with the way the early stages of this draft panned out. I mean, we got the second best QB (Beck over Quinn and Kolb)in their opinion and the second best WR on the board without trading up or losing any picks. I don't know anywhere near enough about John Beck to pass opinion on whether this is a realistic standpoint or not. I guess though that they are forgetting about numbers, stats, popularity and the number of times a guy's eyes glint whilst being interviewed. CC and I'd imagine, given his history, Terry Shea must have looked long and hard at throwing technique, scrambling technique, and these guy's mindsets in determining which was the best. To put it simply, other than Jamarcus Russel, John Beck came out on top.
If they don't, then why the hell are the wasting a 2nd round pick on a QB that doesn't have the ability to become the QB that we need. It was stated a long time before the draft that we'd look at QB. I believe that QB was the right position to draft with our first rounder, as long as it was JR or BQ, however that happened. If they looked at Quinn and said, "You know what, he's overhyped, over-rated and not good enough to lead a team in the NFL" and therefore, picked the next best one, they;ve made an error. The Miami Dolphins need a 15 year franchise QB, if that isn't Quinn, fine. But if it isn't Beck, we'd have been better off waiting that little bit longer.
