The biggest change that will occur to this team with Philbin coming in...

I remember watching the press conference when Sparano was hired and it was nothing like Philbin's today. So I don't know why people are saying this is the "same old thing". Sparano was full of coach speak and playing hard wanting to win, etc. Philbin spoke intelligently and was a breath of fresh air. He is the polar opposite of Sparano IMO.

Agreed. Add Dansby, Pouncey, Hartline and Wake to that list.

Same stuff was said. The team will be evaluated, this is going to be a team effort. It was almost verbatim.

I disagree. The transcript should be available tomorrow. Lets see if we can compare.

I never said you were wrong. I just commented that your...."thoughts" were sad!

Ok, how were they sad? Are you telling me what Philbin said was some how unique to what any of our previous HC's said on their opening PC? Come on, it was the standard new HC speech.

I'm 100% with this guy. But I think it is beyond silly for ppl to imply what he said today or how he said it will make him a good HC. I can make the case for that based on his past actions and achievments, not by the tone or words he used to achieves those things.

My posts are a critique towards Dolphin fans, not the HC.

Your statement isn't wrong but your interpretation may be. Based solely on quotes from GB players, coaches, and even GB media, this guy gets it and has a way of reaching players. He may not use the same vocabulary he did with the press. It's his delivery that will matter most.

Totally agree with this sentiment. His one and one interactions I've read about makes me very excited. What I liked about him during the speech was he made eye contact with the reporters in the room. I respect that type of person.

But the actually message of his speech today, was not significantly different than any of our previous hires as HC. Saban spoke as well or better than Philbin, as it turns out Saban basically had no soul.

I take it you are a journalist or have interest in journalism? You appear to me to be one of the people that want to “pick the fly **** out of the pepper”! Most of us here are enjoying our new head coach and are impressed with his thoughts and how he presented them.

You obviously do not know me, I am the basic homer of this MBoard, ask around.

Journalist can goto hell as far as I'm concerned. IMO they are lower than lawyers.

And I'm enjoying our new HC, I think he will do a GREAT job. Dolphin fans on the other hand, well not sure where they rank, but they are ranked higher than lawyers on my scale.

And Bill Walsh. And Pat Riley. And other articulate guys with brains who have been successful professional coaches.

So now you think I'm saying being a smart well spoken person is a negative when it comes to being a successful NFL HC?

Everyone of those coaches you listed, went beyond just talking the talk. They actually walked it. That's my point. I just hope Dolphin fans remember that.

You said:

"Don't get me wrong, he seems like he will inspire a lot of players, but the vocabulary he uses, can also have the opposite affect on players. It's football, not a Polo competition. "

Which I think is off base. I'm not a professional football player, but I don't think that being smart, well educated and artilculate as opposed to a barely coherent meathead is something that will turn the players off. The opposite of inspiring players is a negative, isn't it?

Then you haven't spent a lot of time around football players. Some of them are dumber than rocks, and I'm being kind. And you don't have to be stupid to be offended by ppl who tend to use larger words than the AVG person uses all the time. Again I like Philbin, but if he's like that all the time, yes I'll admit his *** would grate me, hard. But I some how doubt he always speaks like that when he's with his team.

I wouldn't say Sprano was dumb, in fact I'd say he is very intelligent, but he simply had no respect for reporters. And IMO that's why he came off the way he came off when he was doing PC's. Spranos team played harder for him this past year harder than I've ever seen a Dolphins team play for any Dolphins HC. What I'm saying is, words spoken in front of the press mean nothing to me.

Philbin wants high character guys and guys who are mentally prepared.

Thats what gets me excited. This guy says it and means it. If you show up to the first game of the season and pull up with a hammy. dude will look to shake ur azz up.
