One more thing about Spygate, just to add my 2 cents to the discussion. Just recently I read a book about Spygate (
www.spygatebook.com) and - while it comes across rather biased - it states some facts that can't be overlooked:
- Not a single time in football history has a 2nd year QB, who was picked later than the 1st round, led his team to 11 victories in 14 games - and the SuperBowl championship. Except for Tom Brady, who did it as a sixth round pick. There's a million football scouts, former players, coaches, etc. and not a single one had Tom Brady being picked early in the draft. And then he miraculously turns into the greatest QB in his 2nd year in pro football? Don't buy it.
- In 2008, they lost their starting QB, a future hall-of-famer, to a season-ending injury. His replacement, a guy who had not started a football game since high school, steps in and leads the Patriots to a 11-5 record.
- Lots of Patriots coaches and players excelled while being a Patriot: Josh McDaniel, Eric Magnini, Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weis, Matt Cassel. Yet, all of them flamed out at their next stops. Coincidence?
- In 2010, the New England Patriots did not have an offensive coordinator nor a defensive coordinator, yet they finished the season 14-2.
- The tape with the Spygate 'evidence' was destroyed before NFL commissioner Roger Godell did have a chance to watch it. Where was it destroyed? In Foxboro.
- I don't remember exactly the numbers but the Patriots have an unbelievable home record since Belichick took over. Even after their videotaping was uncovered.
I sincerely believe, where there's smoke there's fire. This ain't Hollywood, this is real life. A 6th round QB does not become the greatest QB of all time overnight.
