Honestly, when you look at Joe Philbin- does he look like a leader of men? I'm not crazy about either coach, but I would chose Mike McCoy over Philbin in a heart beat. McCoy is young, has called plays, has great references (according to the football insiders), has adapted offenses to fit his players (which is exactly what we need), and most of all- he looks the part of a confident leader you would want at head coach. On the other hand, Joe Philbin is in his 50's and has not called plays for the Packers. Although admittedly thats a non-issue since I believe our head coach's OC should call plays. But the bigger issue here comes when you look at Philbin compared to McCoy- Philbin doesn't really look like a leader. I mean come on - they spent EIGHT HOURS in an interview with McCoy, so they must really like what they hear from him. Ross wants to put ***** in the seats with EXCITING OFFENSE, so I am almost 100% sure that if he choses McCoy or Philbin, then they are both ready with an exciting plan for the offense.

I believe that the Dolphins went into the process thinking that Philbion was their guy, but then interviewed McCoy and got completely blown away with his presence and his plan, which is why we have to wait so long for a decision and why we saw an 8 hour interview.

If we get a good DC and keep Daboll as our OC, and pair them with McCoy - we should be in decent hands. At least, thats a staff that I would be confident in.

But let me make a side-note and say that no matter who the Dolphins hire, I'm still gona have faith like a REAL fan. Eventually we'll get it right. Some of you "fans" need to relax and actually start to SUPPORT your team. Instead of firing the guy before you even know who he is, how about actually waiting to see who he is and what he is gonna do , actually HAVE FAITH ...... GO FINS !!

8 hours for an interview. if you interview someone that long it's one of a two things, one, you like someone and you wanna make sure they have a good plan in place to turn things around... or two, you want reasons not to like him so you keep hammering away until you find something you don't like.

hey man, i COMPLETELY agree with you, and you make very valid points. It is important that we make the right choice here and not just attempt to appease the fans with a "name" philbin is not even a name at this point - he is just what fans perceive to be "better" b/c of the team he comes from.

i do believe that mccoy, with his background as a play caller and someone who can play to a rosters strengths, his position as a QB coach for many years in the NFL, and his actual experience playing QB professionally make him the right guy right now.

i can certainly understand people being annoyed with the final 3 list overall - but i really cannot deduce why so many people perceive philbin as the best choice out of the 3. if anything they are kind of equal.

eh, im not really buying the second part of that. it was the same story with fisher. his all day interview and meet and greet with the rams was sure indication he was leaning that way, but fans on finheaven twisted it into "its just b/c he ISNT sure hes trying to convince himself"

doubt it. the longer the interview, and the fact it was the last one, tells me he was the favorite. but this long wait is making cringe now.

So you're saying he may or may not be the new HC?

Good point. Maybe this is where the rumors of Ross wanting one guy, and Ireland wanting a different guy come to be true. One really likes the guy, and the other is just sitting there gathering up his arguement as to why he shouldn't be the head coach. But what I believe the 8 hour interview speaks to more than anything else is the fact that McCoy's interview was that long, and the other candidates weren't (or at least weren't reported). But it's all just speculation because no one really knows what went on in there, but we'll know the end result soon though - hopefully.

The more I dig, the more exposure I get to both men, the more I want Joe Philbin.

That's the truth.

Detail-oriented guy that is confident, doesn't need to force any false bravado in order to capture peoples' attention, and he's been involved with a winning system.

You know, one issue with the Patriots system is it breeds over-confidence and arrogance. Basically, it breeds total *******s. Joe Philbin has been involved with a system that has essentially produced the same level of success as the Patriots' system, but he's the opposite of an *******. He's a good guy, explains himself well, will answer any question honestly and break things down, and the more I see him talk the more I genuinely LIKE him.

Another way to look at this thing is, whcih of these two guys, Philbin & McCoy...

has more in common with Harbaugh. Ross and his billionaire retinue were actually right about their pick last year. It's not their fault that Harbaugh didn't want to leave California.

McCoy has played and won as a QB in College, he was on practice squads at the very least in the NFL. He has coached QB's in college and in the pros and has called plays in college and in the pros. He is younger and also has a good history with two of our main offensive players.

I don't think it is really even close. People who think we will magically turn into the Green Bay packers for the 2012 season if Philbin is our coach are totally delusional.

Valid Point! And while almost every fan wants to knock Ross for trying to get Harbaugh, he knew exactly what he was looking for in his coach- and it woulda turned out to be a great choice if Harbaugh didn't love being in Cali so much

FINITIS23: wow! someone drank the kool-aid!!

thats what ross and ireland were to give us last year. same spiel. and they interviewed several guy who came from big time, productive offenses but who did they chose?

the one candidate whos offense was WORSE than ours!!

so, you SURE you want to stand on that 100% statement?

In all fairness to Ireland, Ross and Brian Daboll, we did have the second most players of 20+ yards in the NFL, I believe.

imo, the offense was definitely more exciting in '11 vs '10.

Ok, they ended up hiring Daboll. Our offense was top 5 in the NFL in 20+ yard plays. Daboll had better players to work with here than in Cleveland, and our offense looked WAYY more explosive than the 2010 season. Your arguement doesn't really have great merit because Daboll did do a good job, considering the pieces he had to work with (Matt Moore at QB). Hell, he even helped Reggie Bush become a 1,000 yard rusher! Ross DOES want explosive/exciting offense so he can sell tickets.
