to me, its a win-win situation. Green has to take over 70% of the snaps for that #5 to become a #4. proportionally, thats OVER 11 games. bottom line, we'll know by game 12 whether this team has a shot to make some noise. otherwise, i suspect Cameron/Mueller wont hesitate to sit him and go with beck the rest of the way.

some might argue this creates badwill between organizations, but i'd argue the badwill has already been created, given Peterson's behavior. i wouldnt be surprised if this is the plan, regardless of green's health.

Develop Beck in the same way Cutler and Leinart were...

Play the vet for the first half of the season... then start Beck.

Save the 4th rounder...

Of course, this all assumes that Beck is ready to be thrown in there ?? I doubt that Cam's plan is to install Beck to avoid the difference between a 4th and a 5th...that just isn't something that any coach would plan for. If Beck is put in, it'll be either at the start of the season or within the first 5 games, if we are not doing well under Green... If we are out of it by game 11 there'll be some disappointed fans...

obviously, cameron's 1st priority is to win. his job depends on it. what i was saying is that we'll have a good gage on what to expect from this team by the end of game 11.

if the team is, say 7-4 or 6-5, its well worth the #4 to see if they can qualify for the playoffs, maybe even 5-6. but at 3-8 or 4-7, you gotta look at protecting your upcoming draft.

Some coaches are not willing to do this. Not to compare apples to oranges but remember when we were out of the playoffs and wanted Lemon to start but Nick wouldnt start him until the last game...I think that for soem reason or another some coaches are not willing to start the youth when the season is tanked...If we are out of the playoffs, god willing, I hope we start beck, although by week 11 there is a very realistic and fair chance that we wont know whether we are or are not out of the playoffs...I think in the end we give up the 4th...11 games isnt alot of games

If we have a winning record with Green I doubt anyone with half a brain sits Green to throw away the season starting Beck. If this was Beck's first year or we are the Cardinals, then yea, this works. However, Beck needs one full year at least as a #3 QB.

I think it comes down to how well the team is doing. If we're kicking azz with Green driving the bus, he'll keep on drivin'. If it looks like we have a good chance at making the playoffs, we'll keep Green in there, give the Chiefs the 4th and keep on truckin'. NFL coaches have a short term orientation kind of like CEOs do ... this quarter's profits are what matters, etc.

But who knows what will really happen? For all we know, Trent might play like Kurt Warner did last year. You know what happened with him. He was throwing a bunch of picks, got booed, and then out came Matt Leinart. Maybe John Beck will blow the coaches' minds in mini camp, training camp and in the preseason and really put some pressure on "old man" Green. Never know what might happen.

I just know I would like to have the best QB we can get our hands on out there this year. JT, Zach, and Porter are getting older. Who knows if they'll even be back next year the way things are in the NFL these days? Their time is NOW. I would love to see those guys taste some playoff success in the next year or two at least. I'd love to see those guys hoist a Lombardi.

It depends on how many games he has to play in order to meet the standards. I mean, really, he may be one hit away from the bench again.. or as I say, a senior citizen center. In that sense, it's going to be John Beck being brought up in a Leinart/Cutler type of situation, as mentioned by an above poster.

But I agree.. save the 4th-rounder unless we're in playoff contention.

I wish life was as cut and dry as many of you believe.

At 5-5 or 6-5 we're still in the playoff hunt. Put those numbers into your calculators and divide by 16.

apparently you didnt read very far into the thread. that obvious scenario has been brought up long before you sarcastically did.

bro ur talking about saban....saban dindt start anyoen that was young. PERIOD. he brought in old guys n was too scared to trust the young ones.

I understand what you're saying, but I'd much rather just compete for the playoffs then save a 4th round selection. Let's say heading into that Monday nighter vs. Pittsburgh in week 12 at 5-5, I would be pretty mad if we turned it over to Beck while Green was performing just fine. If we were in the hunt but getting terrible play from the QB position, then that'd be okay with me if we turn over the reigns.

It's highly unlikely that Green will be benched just to preserve the fourth. First, Green has some play time incentives built into his contract and there's no way "family man" Cameron would sit him so he could miss out on those. It just doesn't seem like something Cam would do (Saban definitely would), but Cameron seems to be possess more integrity. Second, I don't think they would have done this deal if they weren't satisfied with surrendering a fourth. They save faced by saying it was a conditional fifth, but I think for all intents and purposes, they believe it will be a fourth.

Damn finheaven is too s l o w ........ the admins need to get a better server or more bandwidth or something. They need to be able to scale up when big days like today happen.
