I was listening to talk radio here (KNBR) in the Bay Area and they were interviewing Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

Kerr was talking about how he team had the best first quarter he had seen the other night, but how everyone now expects his team to blow out the opponent. He alluded to how much easier it was during "the climb" right before the team became the juggernaut it currently is. He said that sometimes he just needs to appreciate how great the current team is.

The point is that made me think of the 2016 Miami Dolphins. We are currently on the climb with a good nucleus of young players, a head coach in Adam Gase that has been nothing short of incredible in his first season and with possibly an exciting future. The team isn't there yet and that's part of the point of this post.

We need to enjoy the climb. I don't know what to expect in the playoffs, but after a 1-4 start I wouldn't have expected a 9-2 finish and the team actually making the playoffs. The season has already been a near miracle.

I agree we are climbing, but just because you're on the climb doesn't mean you make it to the top. 2008 really felt like a climb with huge expectations for 2009, and we know how that went. And while many would be quick to point out how different the two head coaches are or other reasons for success of either squad, my point is that the climb can get derailed by any number of factors.

I hope we continue the climb all the way to the top but I'm not assuming that's around the corner. That's why I'm hoping we can have some unexpected success right now.

Hope we climb all over Big Ben in the pocket. Agree this team is on the rise.

Yeah, a lot can happen. I hope the climb continues to the top, but we know how difficult that is. We've been close before, although this has a different feel to it. Lots of young, ascending talent though help is needed on the defense.

The 2008 thing is what happens when you have a good coach and he leaves. We were on the climb with Parcells, but then we were left with Sparano to finish the climb. Kinda hard to finish anything when the man with the blueprint steps out of the picture.

Unless Gase shocks all of us by unexpectedly stepping down, I feel comfortable with his plan. We can be sure that he at least has a blueprint and understands that blueprint. We already know that matching 10-6 will be difficult next year, but next year is about rounding out the team and getting better (not necessarily finishing with a prettier record).

This team is young and on the rise but we need a couple of good off seasons to really build a defense. This d has holes all over it, it's a pretty bad defense.

Mark Jackson is the one that built the team, Kerr didnt step in until all the pieces were in place

To continue the climb, we will need LBs and Safeties

I get your point but:

1. Miami is not close to being the Warriors of the NFL
2. We climbed this year because we got a coach who could coach, because 2 of our division rivals regressed and because we played a very weak schedule against mostly inconsistent or weak teams.
3. Next season we'll get to slightly improve the roster (don't expect drafts to add much out the gate), so i doubt the "climb" will continue as sharpy as it did this year
4. Our schedule next year is absolutely murderous. If you're looking for reasons why the climb may plateau, look no further.

Miami is only starting a long overdue climb and next season I would foresee a regression more than a further climb. The season after, depending on talent acquisition, this team might really come into its own. But to be the GSW of the league, things would have to shift upwards by an absurd degree.

I believe the Dolphins are 10-0 this year when Wake records a sack. We need to put pressure on Ben. Make him make mistakes.

Taking a step back before moving forward is definitely a possibility. Miami won't be operating in a vacuum either. Other teams will make good moves and the AFC East could be an entirely different picture.

I think the Jets will take some time to rebuild as that's an aging roster without a settled quarterback situation, but Buffalo has talent if they can find the right coach. The Patriots, unless Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick retire, will be heavy favorites again.

If the Dolphins have another strong offseason, though, another "climb" is possible as early as 2017.

jets and bills aren't going anywhere until they fix their qb situations

Miami fixes it's lb situation and that's 4 wins a season for Miami
