On a warm, California day, the Miami Dolphins, battered and bruised with slim hopes of a playoff berth and little respect from one of the hottest teams in the NFL, overcame impossible odds and summoned the fighting spirit of past great Dolphin teams to prove the corner has been turned and the Nick Saban signature has been emblazoned.
The "no name" defense of 2005 has given rise to players such as, Yeremiah Bell, who for one glorious moment took hope away from the San Diego Chargers to give Dolfans hope that this team is once again destined for greatness. Saban has molded rookies, has-beens. never were's, and stars like Jason and Zach, who are playing with pure desire and heart because their bodies are on injured reserve, to an aggressive, confident group of hit men who take no prisoners. The "no name" defense was more of a kick *** and take name defense on this day. The great LT was shut down and Drew Brees is still seeing Dolphin jerseys in his sleep. Saban has clearly proven he can coach in this league...imagine how great the Dolphins will be when Saban gets his players.
The Saban and Linehan show on the sidelines is clearly a winner. Their on-field observation, communication, and adjustments have proven to be brilliant. Hudson Houck has taken the worst line in football last year and made them into a very good pass blocking unit and an evolving run blocking line. Linehan has worked miracles with Gus and Sage, shaping them into quality NFL QB's in the last three games.
The 2005 Dolphins are a work in progress, but progress has been made...to be sure. The corner has been turned and the stench has been blown away from years of poor drafting and underachieving. The Saban era has clearly arrived and, as fans, we are witnessing the growth of the most exciting team in the NFL. Long live Saban.
