A couple of points to consider:

1) As has been questioned, it is possible that we don't consummate the trade if Culpepper's knee is too bad. I suspect it will be relative b/c he's not going to pass a physical in the best condition. But, if it appears to be progressing and healing - that's a different matter. It will be interesting to see how strict we are.

2) Even though the injury is bad, look at Willis McGahee. An equally severe injury, and he was excellent last year - even able to play some the year before. Culpepper will not need to run like McGahee this year so he could be able to get more PT in.

3) A third issue is how soon Culpepper comes back. It's still worth the trade if he doesn't play until later in the season or next year - b/c he should be able to play another 6-8 years for us. But, what will we do in the mean time? We will basically have to have another QB in the 1st 6-10 games of the year.

I'd like to see Culpepper get with the guy who rehabbed McGahee, myself!

Nevertheless, he is a huge upgrade over Frerotte.

Culpepper won't be another Marino and he may not reach the #'s he had a couple of years ago, but on this team, he doesn't need to. He just needs to be able to make the occasional big play (which he can) and use the weapons he has (which are very solid) and then utilize the great defense we have.

In the long run, we are in good position.

Very, very good post man. I would expetc for Culpepper to return to his form at the middle of this season or maybe in 2007.

Chris Mort said on 790 that the kneww that was injured was actually tighter than the other one....which is strange.....that he's progressign and that he thinkshe'll be starting the season on the field

I hope he comes back healthy as ever for you guys. If he mends back to form it would be a steal for him with just a 2nd round pick in 06'. Congrats!

who said that he was goign to miss until mid season are you guys going on just this type of injury with past players
And do you think Saban who values draft picks as much as he dose would give up a second round pick if if he new he would miss until mid season
