Nope, not another Ryan Tannehill bash thread. At least I hope it doesn't turn out to be one. I have tried to put some numbers together and make sense of them. What do you think?
(It's a PDF, I hope you can read it.)

I liked it. It will not convince the die hard fans that want to blame Tannehill for everything.

I'd like to see how many game he has lost where we ran for 100 yards or more. Heck, I'd like to see how many games we ran for 100 yards or more.

I remember years ago when a few teams were trying that 5 wide spread and after a season or so it was getting destroyed. Yet that is how I feel most of our offense is. We run the spread option formation 98% of the time. We never try to run the ball if we need over one yard for a first down and I think most of those times we try a pass.

3rd and 2 is a passing down for us and everyone knows it.

We have not had a real running game in years. I honestly do not remember one play where we need 3 yards and we lined up in a I formation and said we are going to run it, try to stop us.

And a lot of this comes down to our O-Line. We cannot push anyone off the line and we have never been able to protect Tannehill. He has been sacked and hit since he became the starter more then or close then any other QB.

Interesting stats. Thank you for posting. It does seem to show that Tannehill needs to have good to great games ( statistically speaking ) for us to have a decent chance of winning. That makes sense because it verifies what I see with my own eyes on a weekly basis. Unfortunately it also says " Ryan Tannehill has played below average in 30 of his 55 games that qualify " which also is verified by my eyes on a weekly basis.

I already gave away a post of the day today, but this completely takes the cake. post of the year. Great work, and great points.

Nice analysis. I only disagree with one small point. IMO, passer rating is not a measure solely of the QB play. It is a measure of the passing offense. Specifically, it is a measure of the passing offense efficiency. It is very much affected by the play of others on the offense and, indirectly, by the play of the defense. It is easier to be efficient when pass protection is good, the running game is working, and when you are playing with the lead.

You point remains, if the passing offense isn't clicking, the Dolphins don't win.

Also, the gist of your analysis should be obvious to anyone that understands football.

I'll add that the Dolphins have lost two games this year when Tannehill posted a QB rating above 100. I'm sure that doesn't happen very often.

Well that's a given considering we pass on 75% of our offensive plays...

It will happen most of the time when you only score 17 and 20 points on offense. The idea of the game is to score points not pad your passer rating.

Very good analysis by OP. Ryan definitely needs some help from his team mates.

I have said it before and I will say it again......we would have been a 3-4 win team that last 3 years without Tanne. We have good recveivers and a pretty good back, fix the freaking line PLEASE!!!!! Then get some atleast average LBs and corners and we will be in the playoffs!

I don't think thill is long term answer but I would nt replace him . without replacement qb. we can be avg with thill 6-10-8-8.
