5 Thoughts about the D from last nights Game....
1) Dmitri Patterson- I dunno when it happened, but this guy has a vital part of the D. It is probabaly a combo of him playing well and the alternative being Nolan Carrol, but he has just made things happen in the Turnover Department and his coverage has been decent as well. The problem is he cannot stay healthy. If we get him healthy him and Grimes provide a nice duo.
2) Starks and Solai- Am I the only one who thinks its blatantly clear that Solai is more of a priority to re-sign then Starks? I like Starks, he's a pro bowl claiber player, but Between the 2 I don't think there is any question you re-sign Solai.
3) Dion Jordan?- The use of him from this team continues to be a mystery. Whenever Cam Wake is healthy he seems like he barely plays. Why can't we play these two together?
4) Ellerbe's impact- I think Danell Elerabe has been quietly having a good year for this team. He had a pretty solid game last night and showed up on the field alot. People like to criticize (and at times they should) him and wheeler often, but Ellarbe has played in coverage pretty well and when he was out the difference was noticeable.
5) Reshad Jones has regressed- I don't know what is up with him this year, but from poor tackling to blown coverages it seems like he's fat and happy with that new contract. He got bailed out on that last play for sure.
Final thoughts...The Defense played its ass off last night, but they should look like this on a regular bases. If you look at them on papaer the front 7 is stacked and I expected them just to take over games and get to the QB far more often then they have so far this season. Yes our best Defensive player, Wake, has been hurt, but I actually thought if they failed there would be problems on the back end. Its been a lack of preesure that has killed us, but last night hopefully was the beginning of what this D should look like.
