Shelby has been a dolphin forever but is never really noticed. The last year or two though he has made a good amount of plays and frankly at this point I probably rate him above Dion Jordan.

He has been a good player this year and has always been useful in the past. With Chris Mccain taking his old "useful" role, Shelby may allow us to try Jordan at lb (never been a fan of this in the past, but at this point we need all the help we can get in that position.) Shelby is no Wake or even Vernon but as a rotation player I think he has developed pretty nicely and in the Oakland game I thought he deserved a shout out.

So yea long story short - Shelby was a good acorn and deserves some props. Anyone else rate him?

He was a guy that even a UDFA Philbin's first year everybody pretty much said was a given to make the team. He's the typical Mountain West pass rusher, he's not flashy but he'll work hard and get you results. What the beat writers have been most surprised by is that we've been lining him up at DT a lot on passing downs and that's where he's doing damage.

And as of right now Jordan is too big to go LB this year (unless he really trims down)

Shelby has talent and I hope Jordan doesnt steal snaps from him because I think Jordan is overdrafted garbage

I wouldn't call 3 seasons forever...he's been here since Philbin got here...undrafted rookie in 2012. Shelby worked hard this offseason and did his workout regiment with Cam Wake. He was our top rated DE against the run last year as well.

I was listening to Chris Perkins this morning on Joe Rose and Joe asked where does Jordan fit in when he comes back and Perkins said he doesn't. Said Jordan isn't starting over Wake or Vernon, Shelby is ahead of him and Fede has moved ahead of him. Philbin has also praised Shelby in the past. He's a solid player that they've developed and coached up.

for an undrafted bottom of the roster guy its a long time

Almost all the D-lineman develop under Kacy Rodgers...at least those willing to learn

There are some guys that while undrafted you kind of know are going to stick around for awhile. Davone Bess was one of those guys as well. Of this year I thought Anthony Johnson was that guy.

Of course, we could sign some bum off the street and I'd trust Kacy Rodgers to turn him into something solid. Outside of Jordan (which is incomplete with DJ's suspensions) the only failure I can think of under him is Phillip Merling.

Every time I see Shelby on the field he is constantly pressuring the QB and causing problems. He is a beast and needs to get more playing time..

John Denney has been here since 2005 and he was an undrafted rookie. 10 seasons would be forever.
Jonathan Freeny has been here since 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers...a year longer than Shelby.
We had Davon Bess here for years as an undrafted free agent...2008-2012 was it?
Brian Hartline was drafted in 2009 but he plays like he should have been undrafted sometimes...lol...alright I'm just kidding there.

And we have probably had 600 undrafted free agents since 2005  stop nitpicking

Is that a shot at Jordan? If it is, I concur.

Philip Merling had no business being draft by the Dolphins. One of the most confusing picks we made. He was no DE in a 3-4 and not fluid enough to play OLB in the 3-4. Just made no sense.

Is Jordan ever even gonna see the field this year?

He's going to see the field...Dolphins have no choice. Have to find a way to get him involved simply because he was the #3 overall pick. I'm not sure if we can still use him in the "speed" package and he may have lost some of his ability to drop back in coverage since he bulked up but Coyle will have to find a way to get him on the field.
