After suffering through another "almost" won game this week and reading all the posts about individuals that "cost" us the game, I started to really analyze the difference between the Pats and the Dolphins. What really makes the Pats winners? Analyzing all that I saw yesterday, I came up with only one possibility: The Dolphins lack the mental edge to be winners.

Take the Pats for a moment. This was a Patriots team that should be in the cellar of the AFC East. They are so injury riddled that they shouldn't be able to field any semblance of a competitive team, yet they sit atop the East once again. Why? Because they are mentally tough. No matter what happens, they know they are winners. They know their coach will have a great game plan...they don't question it. They know that whoever they plug in to a position is going to do a great job. They understand their position and focus only on execution of that position.

Just as important as what they do, is what they don't do. There are no mentions of the word "dynasty" from the players. There are no meetings with coach whining about how offended his choice of words has made us. There are no excuses for losing. There is no "we are really close" comments. There are no outbursts at the media for not recognizing our stats.

Until the Dolphins can shed the crybaby antics and individual stat padding, they will never be successful, no matter how much talent they have. This team needs to stop whining and worrying about individual recognition and start acting as a team. They need to focus so much on their technique and the system, that they can run their drills in their sleep. This requires discipline, and discipline comes from mental toughness. Mental toughness makes great things happen, and once they happen enough, they become a habit.

Is there room for better talent on this team? Absolutely. Could the Dolphins be getting much better results with the same level of talent they have now? No doubt. I am afraid that many of our players are still trying to awaken from the Wanny mindset, and some of them may never be able to shake it. Don't be surprised if some of our "essential" veterans make a hasty exit this offseason and are replaced by mentally tougher players who accomplish much more with significantly less talent. The mentally challenged will be forced to go, and the rebuilding isn't going to be complete until they are gone...I fear this rebuilding is going to take longer than any of us want to believe.........

The Pats execute when they need to. Miami does not.

pats have a franchise qb and the dolphins dont.

Frerotte certainly is no Brady, but the Pats don't have a Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams either. BTW, Frerotte outperformed Brady yesterday.

Why? Does our secondary suck so badly that we aren't as good as their 3rd string secondary players? Is Heath Evans Ronnie's equal? Is Chris Chambers that much worse than Branch? Is McMike that much weaker than Ben what's-his-name? I don't think so. So the Pats execute when they need to, yet have inferior or equivalent talent. The difference here is a winning attitude and the mental toughness to get the job done.

That's just it. Frerotte outplays Brady and still gets a loss, despite clearly having more talent around him. This team can never sync together, a sure sign of poor mental toughness and lots of individuals playing on the field, instead of a group of players united in a common goal.

Part of it has to be technique's... Chambers never uses his hands enough, often depending on the body-catches. McMichael jumped for a pass he should have run through in the second quarter that resulted in a game-momentum changing fumble.

Not to mention the big Tim Dwight catch where everyone in the secondary was playing man with the game in the balance. That was bad play calling... We don't have the team speed in the secondary to keep up with Tim Dwight or Deion Branch!! There should have been a DEEP safety!! :shakeno:

RONNIE IS A MAN AMONG BOYS, HE EXPOSES THE TALENT OR LACK OF ON THE OFFENSE... Booker was the only dependable receiver (which I hate to say), not that I don't like him but I always thought that Chambers was a legitimate #1 receiver and now I'm not sure...

the difference is that the fins compare themselves to the Pats. and not the other way around.

The difference is that they have WR's that catch the ball, and the Pats have the REF's in their back pocket. I guess that is how it is when the NFL helps to build your stadium.

That's just silly. Every NFL team right now compares themselves to the Pats.

maybe thats their problem. you can not be the Pats. you have to play your game.

i hate it when someone says... lets just take a QB in the 6th, the Pats did it. or, lets put a WR at CB... the pats did it...

Is there nothing more productive that you could have posted :shakeno:

the pats have 4 or 5 receivers that just don't drop the ball. chalk it up to excellent scouting and drafting well, as well as great coaching
