The Dolphins #1 pick is obvious ...

Nothing is obvious this time of the year.

What is strange thou..is this;

"Ireland also isn't inclined to draft for need early in the selection process. He's more likely going to want the player with the best grade on the board. He does believe, however, that you can begin addressing specific needs later in the draft to fill out the roster."

Now how could anyone know what Ireland would or wouldn't do...as far as I know...this is his first draft as a GM.

... its going to be Chris Long.

Read the top post in Armando Salguero's blog from the Miami Herald entitled, "Things I know before today's start of the NFL meetings" and try and argue otherwise.

Are you trying to troll? If so, that's not a good attempt. If not, what in the world did you see in that article that isn't there? There's no mention of who they might be thinking about taking.

Although nothing is very definitive, this does slightly hint, IMO, that OT, which is our biggest need, will be addressed later rather than sooner. Jake isn't the best player in the draft and Ireland knows this. Chris Long and Gholston are though and that's why one of them will be the pick. Gholston has the edge over Jake at this point and I think Chris remains the ultimate favorite right now.

From this you can forget all those "need" arguments that people keep throwing around. The first pick is all about whom they have rated highest.
That sounds like Chris Long or Dorsey to me.

1. "The Dolphins definitely have plans for John Beck."
"Sparano has been mentioning Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn Jr. and Beck as guys that will be the nucleus of the team in the next couple of years. So don't write the QB off."
If that doesnt say were not taking Ryan, i dont know what will.

3. "New GM Jeff Ireland is a big believer in production. Like everyone else, he appreciates when an athlete runs a great time at the combine or at his pro day, but he appreciates more when a player performs and produces on the field. Given the choice of one or the other, Ireland will lean toward the player."
Of the top three prospects (Both Longs and Ryan), all had solid SR compains but Chris Long arguably preformed the best last season on the field of the 3.

4. "Ireland also isn't inclined to draft for need early in the selection process. He's more likely going to want the player with the best grade on the board."
This basically means that Jake isnt a lock to be the top pick just because we desperately need a OT, but since most people have Chris Long as having the "best grade" he could very possibly be picked at the top.

Every sign i see points towards Chris Long and you add that to the fact that the tuna loves him some defensive players, and its a no brainer ...

Chris Long is the selection.

Jake Long also arguably performed better last season. People also have him with the "best grade". So by your reasoning J. Long is a no brainer. You're just looking through C. Long shaded glasses and seeing what you want to see. There is nothing in that blog.

Hello....it's only a writers guess...so I take it for what it's worth...nothing.

Again...Hello....this is only a writers opinion...not based on fact. If you know Parcells....he hates sports writers.

Matt Ryan Will Not Be The Dolphins 1st Round Pick

This posted on the Miami herald shows that Ryan will not be the pick.
Clearing out the notebook before I refill at the NFL's Annual Meeting starting today in Palm Beach:

1. The Dolphins definitely have plans for John Beck. When coach Tony Sparano talks with his coaches and confidants about Miami's need to get leadership from younger players, he mentions the second-year quarterback. Sparano thinks great teams are ones with leaders that are in their third, fourth and fifth seasons -- guys in their prime. Sparano has been mentioning Ronnie Brown, Ted Ginn Jr. and Beck as guys that will be the nucleus of the team in the next couple of years. So don't write the QB off.

I think it is going to be Jake Long Offensive Tackle Michigan. Matt Ryan Sucks Anyway!

DING DING DING DING!!!!!!!!!!!
WE GOT A SMART ONE HERE! lol

I do agree 1000000% with you. Its either LONG (CHRIS) or DORSEY. I am tellin gya'll miami will go for a T at 57 i believe or 64. I think miami goes after Brown the RT from VT they like him a lot. hell be there at 57 or 64. carey will be our LT if that is the case and i think well go G iwht the other pick in greco. WE might go greco 57 and Brown at 64. Our line is set we just need depth then.

Dorsey or LONG are the BPA and one will be the pick. I dono which tho. : / I think it comes down to JT's situation and if miami was pursuing Pace and wanted him so bad then someone like LONG seems ot be the pick b/c why spend that much money on pace if u can get one cheaper in round 2? clearly there was a reason behind that I believe.

Why would we want a OLB that can't rush the passer when we have two that can???????

... its going to be Chris Long.

It could be, and that wouldn't be such a bad thing, but the more I think about it the more I'm thinking it will be Jake Long. On the one hand, when you have the first overall pick, you should absolutely pick the best player on the board. The thing is, I'm not so certain it's all that clearcut this year. Is Chris Long really clearly that much better then Jake Long? Perhaps, but I'm not certain he is. If that is the case, then all things being equal, you have to know that the Tuna likes to run the football and stop the run. Now with our front seven including Ferguson and JT on defense, you have to like our ability to stop the run. On offense on the other hand, we can't do anything with the offensive line that we currently have.

So, unless we trade JT to Minnesota for McKinnie (which would be a mistake in my opinion) then we will probably draft Jake Long with our first pick, and that wouldn't neccessarily be a bad thing. That would then allow us to grab a cornerback and perhaps a tight end like Fred Davis with our second round picks. Having an offensive line that could open holes for R&R, and protect Beck enough for him to develop would be the best help we could give our defense. Now, could we grab a tackle with our 32nd pick? Possibly, but it just makes more sense that our Offensive line oriented head coach is going to look at what he has to work with right now on that side of the ball and push hard for Jake Long. Just an opinion...

It would be a Mistake the fans up in Minnesota are talking about just cutting McKinnie, and they just want something back from there 1st round Investment.
