It could be, and that wouldn't be such a bad thing, but the more I think about it the more I'm thinking it will be Jake Long. On the one hand, when you have the first overall pick, you should absolutely pick the best player on the board. The thing is, I'm not so certain it's all that clearcut this year. Is Chris Long really clearly that much better then Jake Long? Perhaps, but I'm not certain he is. If that is the case, then all things being equal, you have to know that the Tuna likes to run the football and stop the run. Now with our front seven including Ferguson and JT on defense, you have to like our ability to stop the run. On offense on the other hand, we can't do anything with the offensive line that we currently have.
So, unless we trade JT to Minnesota for McKinnie (which would be a mistake in my opinion) then we will probably draft Jake Long with our first pick, and that wouldn't neccessarily be a bad thing. That would then allow us to grab a cornerback and perhaps a tight end like Fred Davis with our second round picks. Having an offensive line that could open holes for R&R, and protect Beck enough for him to develop would be the best help we could give our defense. Now, could we grab a tackle with our 32nd pick? Possibly, but it just makes more sense that our Offensive line oriented coach is going to look at what he has to work with right now on that side of the ball and push hard for Jake Long. Just an opinion...
