i just dont realize why people were so hard on us at the beginning of the season because with my funky dunky calculations, its possible for the dolphins to go back to 10-6 form this year (possible meaning if everything goes the right way)

That doesn't mean I'm saying they are. In my honest opinion they are going to go about 8-8 with a bright future ahead

But without further babbling....here is why I think they can go 10-6 in 2005:
2003

*HORRIBLE O-LINE (couldn't block for anything)
*Infantile and predictable Offense
*RICKY WILLIAMS (1300+ yards with the revolving door of fat men in front)
*CHAMBERS AND MCMICHAEL (no number 2 option other than derrius chumpson)
*QB Fiedler/ Griese (enough said even though i think griese got a bad wrap b/c of the line)
*Great Run D
*Above Average Pass D
*average to below average special teams (except for Olindo...when he worked)
*horrible coaching staff

*(***no significant injuries****)

Record =10-6 (miss playoffs)

2004

*WORST O-LINE EVER (even worse than the year b4)
*Infantile and Predictable Offense
*No Ricky Williams (no running game, no offense since it depended mainly on him opening up pass options)
*CHAMBERS AND BOOKER AND MCMICHAEL (Better passing weapons, breakout year for McMike but no line to block, no QB to throw)
* QB's couldn' throw to their team (but did a hell of a job throwing to the other) due to O-Line and suckiness of QB's
* Weak Run D (due to injury to Bowens and Chester and at points Thomas and Seau,no one to clog up hole, no one to tackle)
* Above Average Pass D (Still had Surtain and Knight which worked at the time)
* Flourishing Special Teams with Welker (Diminishing Kicking game b/c of Mare's injury and lack of production)
* horrible coaching staff and new regime mid season ( Wanny screws it all up)
* Lost alot of games by a touchdown or less
*significant injuries (Seau,Thomas,Bowens,Chester,Gordon,Mare,Boston,etc)

Record = 4-12 (ouch to season ticket holders)

NOW (after boring you for so long )

2005

*Great Pass Blocking skills showed so far which is great and decent run blocking (O-line can block better than last year and better than the year b4 where we went 10-6 thanks to Houck)
*New explosive Offense than looks for the long ball and play making options not just "giving it to Ricky")
* RICKY WILLIAMS back and RONNIE BROWN'S emergence for a possible double rushing threat (better than last year ((we actually have a back)) )
* CHAMBERS,BOOKER,MCMIKE,BOSTON,WELKER (new offense brings new possibilities than will make use of our new receiving threats)
* A QB that isnt great but can do the job (and can get the ball deep which is something that has been missing for awhile)
*INcredible Run D (due to actually having TWO starting INside linemen that can clog the whole and 3 if you count TRAYLOR twice and CARTER helps too)
*Bad Pass D (SURTAIN left,MADISON getting burned, POOLE out,DANIELS alright but a rookie, and HOWARD is a paraplegic)
*Good Special Teams with WELKER (and MARE starting to come around back to form)
* Coaching staff that players want to play for and are motivated to do well with
*significant injuries (POOLE)

in other words...besides the fact that our secondary is getting chewed to bits, we look better on paper than in 2003 right now.

The 2004 drop off was due to everything going wrong but those problems (for the most part) have been fixed except for if everyone gets injured again.

Why can't people see that we're basically right back where we were in 2003?

Yes I know that the AFC EAST has gotten stronger since then but not that strong except for the Patriots (especially the bills with their lack of run stoppage and offense and the Jets with noodle arm).

But hey...what do I know
I'm just 18 :).

comparing '03 to '05...10-6 is certainly possible

however, i think we will lose to the pats twice. brady will expose us deep and they will jump on our slants. thats something im surprised more teams havent done

as for 10-6 and beyond...its all about the long ball: converting it and defending it

Great post...and I agree. If we can avoid the injury bug (knock on wood), reduce the penalties, and even get a slight bit of improvement from the secondary, get a few wins on the road, this team can go a long way.

I see the veterans on this team playing harder than they've had before. I think they finally the have respect for the coach that's been missing for a while. Lord knows DW wasn't close to being an average NFL coach.

Gus ain't gonna light it up consistantly, but he's just quietly and effectively getting the job done with minimal mistakes. Not only that but the line is finally starting to show some improvement. Hopefully it keeps up and they can cut those penalties in half.

That being said, while we may not make the playoffs this year, I can honestly see this team at least doubling it's win total from this year if not more.

Dont forget despite there "dynasty" in recent years, they have only won in Maimi once!! And that game was giftwrapped by Olindo Mare's right leg:)

So I feel a split is fair to assume.

very true. i just know they will expose our weaknesses

they will interesting games though. im sure the media will be all over the "teacher vs. student" angle

if the fins win one of those, the media will worship saban for a few days

give the secondary some time. they've been going up against some pretty elite receivers these past 2 weeks. they didnt look THAT awful against Denver. Daniels is still adjusting to the speed of the pro game, he'll get it down over the next couple of weeks. Furthermore, i would say that the chances of Miami making the playoffs seem promising, the AFC has been hit and miss thus far this year, with bad teams winning games and good teams losing them. we still are underrated which i think works in our favor, another interesting difference between 2003 and this year is that i often felt that in the waning years of wanny's reign our team was just simply out coached, and i dont see that happening to Saban. i see Miami making it to the playoffs and possibly pulling an upset of a weak division winner, such as KC.

I agree. I don't see why we can't go 10-5. I think we could maybe even do better. Lets break down the rest of the schedule.
Buf - growing pains at qb and a depleted run defense. 2 w's 4-1
Tampa - We stop the caddy and rush the son of bob. 1 W 5-1
Kc - Try to stop the Priest and Gonzales. A close one. 1 W 6-1
Ne - Harrison out, depleted O line. 1 W, 1 L 7-2
Jets - Testa-man-ape at QB. 1 W 8-2
Oak - We stop the run but can't stop Moss. We pull it out 1 W 9-2
Browns - Without Winslow not a gigantic threat but probably a close one 1 W 10-2
San Diego - Tough game for the D. Incorporate the KC game plan. 1 L 10-3
Tenn - We stop the Titans dead in their tracks. 1 W 11-3
Atl - By now Vick is in a wheelchair. 1 W 12-4

I know their out of order. Who can dispute the above based on what we've seen so far. KNOWING we'll continue to get better. There aren't many teams that will be able to stop Ricky AND Brown. They'll have to stick 8 in a box on every play. Then we're going to light them up in the passing game! I know there are some glass is half empty guys out there who will shoot holes in this post. But, I believe we can win THIS year.

I think we CAN win the rest of our games. I don't see us losing real bad this year, and being right in every game. With that said, I don't like these two strings of games:

#1
KC Thank goodness at home, no noise to deal with at arrowhead
@NO Most winnible, but they are still dangerous
ATL Vick, Ducket, and Dunn will be a test....can Vick throw on our weak secondary?
NE They're the Pats.....enough said.

#2
@OAK Long road trip here, and they will score. Can we keep up?
BUF Division game thats always tough. Should pull one out at home.
@SD Another trip west. LT and Gates will be the challenges here. And tough ones!
NYJ Maybe easiest game of these 8 right now, but we have to see how Vinny plays, and if EARS comes back.

Why what can EARS do? Just throw it to Madison. He owes us what.......35-50 int's?

You suppose that maybe with Saban now as our HC, we will expose theirs even more severely on our turf then they will us?

I agree with your post and we could go 10-6. However there are still some holes to fill before we become one of the top teams in football. These include the secondary (poole back next year should help), QB, and WR.

Yes WR still needs to be improved IMO. Everyone considers it one of our strengths but I think we can be better there for sure. Boston has really been a disappointment and hasnt made any plays. Booker is a good WR, but I think having him as a #3 with Chambers and a real good deep threat as the top 2 would be ideal.

What many have to under understand, Miami this year seems almost impossible to run consistently against, that is going to hurt many Offenses. There are very few teams in the NFL that can perform if you take the run away.

I had Miami winning 9-10 games this year, but if they continue to improve the way they have, I then am very surprised to say, I may have been pretty conservative in my prediction.
