Earlier today, we took a look at the massive number of penalties the Miami Dolphins have sustained over the past few years. In 2017, the team was penalized 137 times, the second most flags thrown against a team for the season. That follows being second in the league in flags in 2016 and fourth in 2015.
We follow that up this morning with a closer look at the Dolphins’ 2017 penalties. All this information is via NFLPenalties.com.

No doubt. This just seems like an undisciplined team. Lots of young players and a coach who is learning on the job are certainly attributing factors.

Pouncey is gone, that's 2 penalties per game right there. Suh was off sides 1 or 2 times a games. Tunsil needs to learn how to be an elite LT in the NFL and he also, commits too many penalties. I think the team will be much more settled under Tannehill, that will cut down on penalties on offense. On D we have Minkah coming in along with Baker to team up with his Ohio State team mate Rakeem McMillan. There 3 players are Champions and will help right away in all aspects. We're going to see a very different team next season.

Agreed with @BSQ losing pouncey and suh cuts down the number of penalties right off the top. Add in some rookie mistake penalties that might even out but bottom line is we need to clean that up.

You know who actually got much better at this in 2017? Ja'Wuan james. There was a stretch in 2016 where he single-handedly killed drives with stupid holding penalties. He cut down on that considerably in 2017.

Crunched the numbers and pouncey, Landry, and Suh accounted for about 15% of both the total number of penalties and penalty yards for the year. Do what you want with that.

Well done..and if we assume they start every snap (which they dont), out of 22 players they are 13.6% of starting team. And thats lower since again they dont start every snap. So ill knock it down to 12% conservatively.

Conclusion: they did cause a disproportionate number of penalties. Less than 12% of players causing 15% of penalties. Not major deviance but its something.
