The Dolphins’ Head Coach Is More Than Competent — He Might Just Be Snakebit

Why are so many people so clueless 2016 had mostly to do with a cupcake schedule?

6 of their 10 wins against teams that finishing in the bottom 7
  • Combined record of 22-74 (5-11, 5-11, 5-11, 4-12, 2-14, 1-15)
  • Only 1 win by more than 7 points and that was against the Jets when Moore was QB
  • Went to OT to beat 1-15 Browns
8 of their 10 wins were against teams finishing in the bottom 10
  • The two wins against the 10th worst team, Buffalo as a result of Ajayi rushing in one game for 214 yards and the other 206 yards
  • Both wins by 3 points, one in OT
9 of their 10 wins were against teams finishing in the bottom 13

Only team Miami beat with winning record was Pittsburgh when Ajayi rushed for 204 yards, 2 TDs

Miami's losses that year
12-10 to Seattle (opener)
31-24 NE (NE led 31-3 in 3rd quarter and played soft defense)
Bengals 22-7
Titans 30-17
Ravens 38-6
Patriots 35-14
Steelers 30-12 (Playoffs)

Gase hasn't been snake bitten. Gase was blessed in 2016 with a soft schedule and a RB (Ajayi) he inherited from the previous regime who he then traded away.

Anyone that doesn't think schedule matters ask yourself two question...1) What do you think Miami's record would be this year if they played 16 games against the Rams or Chiefs? 2) What do you think Miami's record would be this year if they played 16 games against the Cardinals or Raiders?

Miami's schedule was also the biggest reason they went from 1-15 in 2007 and then 11-5 and won the division in 2008 (along with Brady being injured of course).

Who cares if they had a cupcake Schedule in 2016? There are some teams I know that have played 5 back up qbs in one season and they get to face a team that hasn’t won a game in years. All teams get breaks. Anytime Miami has a tiny bit of success it gets ripped apart. They made the playoffs in 2016. That’s all that matters. I wish Miami got breaks like playing back up qbs, having no injuries, playing teams who win 1 game over two years. The Steelers haven’t had to play Andrew luck or Aaron Rodgers the last two times they played those teams. We never get those breaks. So easy schedule and no injuries. I would take it and be happy. Because every other team gets that.

I agree to some extent but it’s still hard to win in the NFL. How many teams, other than the Patriots, win like every game they should win. The answer is not many. Also, Let’s not forget divisional schedules are identical minus 2 games. My point is the Jets and Bills were given the same opportunities to thrive in 16 and 08 and couldn’t capitalize. If it was so easy they should have won lots of games as well. Yes, schedule is a factor but it’s still not easy.

50% of our wins in 2017 came against vaunted, “playoff teams” (Ten, Atl and NE).

2016 Gase benefited from a easy schedule and a team that someone else built. Just like all of the other coaches with first year success, they benefited from a team someone else built. By year 3 is when you are seeing what a coach can really do because he has had more than enough influence on the team. Gase is incompetent and it is clear by his hirings and play calling.

He is the worst!!! let’s see if we can get back Philbin and Cameron. What high school are they coaching at? I will contact the athletic director and and Ross can hire them back?

Do you guys really believe these injuries haven’t affected us. I think we would have lost to the pats either way. But we would have beat the bengals with tunsil. Lions we might have laid an egg still . Though having Hayes would have helped us. But we should be 5 and 2 at least heading in tomorrow. Now we are limping in at 4 and 3.

And no I am not making excuses for why the Dolphins have not won a super bowl in 45 years. But most of those years I expected us to suck. Even during Marino years we made playoffs and got routed first round. Nobody says about the easy schedules then. This year we had a good line, explosive playmakers , leadership. Now it’s all gone to hell. Its made a 10 win team probably a 7 win team.

I've seen very little from him that says he's upper echelon coach. This slow starts and repetition of the same mistakes over and over drive me crazy. I'd rather see another quarterback with upside before I like to see another coach but I'd be okay with both leaving. We seem to fold when we're in a position to take the bull by the horns and that is not a sign of a quality coach.

Won with somebody else’s team. Ah yes the great LB core featuring Spencer Paysinger and Donald Butler? Maybe the great safety tandem of Baccari Rambo and Micheal Thomas. Or Kiko playing one handed? Winning 10 games with that defense was a miracle.
